So I was doing some german homework and suddenly my screen turned black and white. Not sure why this happened or how to revert it.

Turn the computer on and off....seriously...it might reset the situation!
Check your video card setting within the cards driver program. There are ways within that set of programs to limit the number of colors.
Also make sure that your video cable is fully inserted into the slots on the back of the computer and the monitor.

Once you have done the checks folks have mentioned above, you might also consider your monitor has gone defective, so maybe try another one if you can (if it is a laptop you often have external ports for other displays besides the laptops own, like DVI, D-SUB or HDMI etc)?
Perhaps the screen cable is not pushed enough into the slots ?

Its a laptop I'm afraid.

I did reset it and the blue windows screen of update was actually blue so I think this is more of a software issue.

You had better call your eye doctor - the above screenshots look normal to me. The colors are quite vibrant actually.
Maybe it is software after all.
