I know there are plenty of threads about revamping the base game animals, but one of the many I think nobody talks enough about is the black wildebeest. This thing has always looked so off to me, more than the lion. I took some screenshots of both the black wildebeest and the blue wildebeest to compare the leap in quality/accuracy to the animals in real life.
To start, the blue wildebeest and its incredible accuracy down to its beard and mane:
Blue wildebeests in real life:
And now the black wildebeest--
In real life:
I have more images to share but it looks like I've reached the file limit. My main concerns with the black wildebeest are the hair on the face and chest. In-game, the hair on the face looks like sharp bristles and are all uniformly pointed straight out. This is less egregious than the fur on the chest, which looks like a solid chunk covered in fuzz. It does not look like a fringe like its meant to, and warps unnaturally with the model when the animal bends to graze/drink. Additionally, while I did not get screenshots of the tail, it needs to be longer and stringier.
I don't really have a closing statement except that I hope Frontier seriously considers revisiting their base game animal roster and spruces them up so they can be of the same quality as their DLC animals. The wildebeest in particular irks and disturbs me the way its model distorts and just the sheer incomparable leap in fidelity between the black and blue wildebeests.
I also hope the image arrangements don't break after I post this, lol.
