Blackouts?

I think it has to with dropped frames and the interweaved and reprojection can't compensate enough so it cuts out for a few seconds I get it a lot in high traffic areas such as when I am trying to land at stations or when I jump. Doesn't happen all the time though but can get hair raising when half way through a docking port.

do you still have the problem? becuase I do and it is quite frustrating... I thought that it was cable issue by first but I checked everything and it is not... the issues started after february update before everything worked flawlessly... as far as I can tell it seems issue with powersave feature, it is turning the dispaly off if you do not move your head for few seconds, does anybody know how to turn powersave off?

Seems to be on the list of known issues:

Dunno if this is purely VR related. Had it happen twice (for a second or two) up until now. Both in supercruise.

Yeah heh, went to combat zone today, for the first time in a long time actually. Certainly first time since I got vr, and 4 times the vive went black on me, and not just for a second either. I had to terminate the game via the task manager and restart for it to clear up.

SteamVR Beta Updated (1490317720) 24 MARCH
HTC Vive:
Fixed Vive HMD going into standby mode while in use.

I just played Elite for two hours in VR and can confirm that his Patch finally fixed the Blackouts for me!
After three months I can enjoy Elite in VR again.

My DK2 is frequently going grey as if it's leaving the camera's sight despite the fact that there's no way I'm doing that. I just assumed it was getting old or maybe because it took a tumble off my desk a few weeks ago.

The screen blacks out as soon as i hold my head still for a few seconds and stare in one direction.
This is very strange indeed, Vive has a proximity sensor between the lenses, maybe it got dirty or something?

Glad to hear it fixed it for you :) I encountered the "vive going in standby when use" bug once, but a reboot fixed it.

Same here, it looked like VR Compositor crash, because the music continued to play. Had to terminate the game. It was happening regularly after a while in CZ. Temps ok, GTX 1070.

Anyone else getting blackouts in busy CZs?
Look at your Vive VR settings. There is a selection for power saving, make sure that is off. Also, in your Control Panel, Power Settings make sure your USB does not have any selectable power save enabled.

I had this issue and that solved it for me.

Quick question though, I heard that they messed with the SS in SteamVR Beta to make things look less sharp. Any notice of that? I disabled Beta because of it.

Obviously there may be more than one cause of this. For me though, it was the temperature of my link box getting to high. I rearranged my vive area and when I did I moved the link box from sitting on a desk to being velcroed down to a windowsill. It wasn't the heat from the window, it was the insulating effect of the velcro on one side.

I noticed when I reset up the room I would get a blackout flash occasionally in random games, but it was rare so I didn't pursue it. When I got into ED recently I found it to be frequent when going into a visually busy station, and very common in CZ's, often in REZ as well. Once I removed that velcro that was covering one side the problem disappeared. The box is always far cooler to the touch now since I removed the velcro.

Since it's an easy thing to try, if you are getting blackout flashes look at cooling your link box down and see if the problem goes away :)
