Blast from the past and maybe a feature at last?

Not that there was any hint whatsoever, but with this year being dedicated to improving existing features (including going back to things brought up very early but never implemented); this is from an old dev diary video and the link leads straight to the relevant section:

Interchangeable exterior main engines. Now the idea back then was more like buying a different module would also change the look of the thrusters, but I think at this point it would be more viable to make this a purely cosmetic option, similar to ship kits.

Because, you know, look at this:

There's two circular engines embedded in a rectangular piece that looks very suspiciously like one of those bits that could theoretically swapped out for a different style. And, truth be told, I always found it a bit odd that the Python has these two pairs of circular thrusters, when the other Faulcon DeLacy ships have more rectangular(ish) designs. I'd love to have these piece each be one massive rectangular thruster, a bit like on the Anaconda.

I’d like to see that huge unknown door between the thrusters open up and deploy a big tank or SLF.

Several ships have those rear doors, I remember thinking that would be how the SRV exited & rejoined the ship.

I'd like to see more work done to flesh out the ship models, thrusters that change with the module would be one, damage modelling for more than just the Conda would be another. But I wouldn't prioritise it over say atmospheric landings.

Like the holo-me, I see this as one of the aspects of the game that would need to be fleshed out before spacelegs allow us to get really close to parts of the ship we don't normally look at without the external camera.
