Blasted in SRV now have no contacts.

I was doing an assassination mission. In order to find the target I was to infiltrate the planet base and retrieve the data. Alas, I was blasted off by security drones. As soon as I spawn in my ship I can no longer request docking at stations. There are no contacts shown up. Tried Logging off an on. Traveled to another system. No change.

What gives?

Sounds like your sensors are offline. Check them in the right-hand panel under Modules.
I had it when I accidentally turned them off during a fight.

Thanks guys. That was it. I have been in combat and my sensors are obliterated.

Is there anything I can do to avoid self destruct? I can't land anywhere to repair ship. What can I do?

IIRC, you have a 'reboot' option - this should repair the sensors at the cost of integrity to other systems.
I think that's how it works, but I'm sure somebody will be along to confirm :D

I had this happen in beta when someone decided to use me as target practice for testing their all + thermal shock weapons on me when I was leaving a station. I didn't find a solution to this and had to self destruct. Thing is you can't request docking without sensor because to can't contact them, even though the rest of your ship is fine. The only advice I can give is try a systems reboot, but I don't think it will repair something that is completely destroyed. It didn't work for me.

I would say try the reboot/repair option but do it just outside of a station, that way you will be able to request docking quickly just in case it malfunctions again.

Reboot is a great feature I'd say a lot of folk don't know about. I found it by fluke once after escaping a fight and needing to get something up and running again in order to get back to base.

I had to use reboot in 2.1.0. Got PA's from behind (I think it PA that strips external modules) took mu thruster, chaff and point defence laser out. Not used it for a long time!
Given the wing that attacked me was still out there, with some police to get them entertained I tried doing it under silent running. I have no idea if this helped or not. I did not die though, which was a result.

Reboot/Repair only works on destroyed systems. Basically what happens is that your ship systems go through a full shut down (so hope you have enough oxygen, and don't do it in Super Cruise), and then, as they are started back up, they are evaluated. If anything shows as 0% integrity it is destroyed (in effect; it is still there but it does not work or power up), and so what then happens is that the simple repair system will then scavenge suitable components from other systems (that have more than 10% integrity, to keep then functional) to bring the 0% systems back on line. Be aware that this will cause 2% damage for every 1% recovered, so get to a repair shop pronto!
