Blaze your own trail - Join the Thargoids?!

Since we are encouraged to RP our own story or "blaze our own trail", why cannot we join the Thargoids?

Would be interesting to join them in an attack on a station or just wreak havoc because we have the freedom/are encouraged to blaze our own trail and personal narrative.
Who'd like to see this option?

And you'd have proper PvP in place too.

I wouldn't like to see that option at this moment in time.
Communications between humans and Thargoids are not in the right place for human defectors to be able to work with them.

And perhaps the Thargoids even despise individuals who betray their own species. Especially if the Thargoids have some kind of hive mind (as some have speculated) the concept a betraying your own species might be totally alien and repulsive to them.

Ah it reminds me of joining the voinians in escape velocity override. They were not quick to trust a human, but after slaughtering enough of your own kind they'd give you access to some of their tech. Felt so good.

The same old tired straw man.

"I want to ride a space unicorn whose propulsion system is farting rainbows. Oh, I can't to that? So much for blazing your own trail."

That's not how this works.

There are some story related issues with that idea. For players to join the Thargoids in some form or an other, the players would need to get more information about the Thargoids. The lack of information about the motives and goals of the Thargoids is part of the way FDev creates the mystery around the Thargoids - that's what makes them alien.
Allowing players to join the Thargoids would turn them into nothing more but yet an other human faction.

What? They removed the Unicorn Fart Drive? Am I stuck with my Friendship Drive ? God no. Im on my way to get a mug and pick up my UFD and dump this Friendship drive, whatever the hell that is.

What a mug. :(

You can state your allegiance to the thargoids if you want, there doesn't really need to be a game mechanism for this.

Be advised if I see you I will kill you. Have a great day, bug hugger. ;)

For everyone poo poo-ing this idea please explain what these are for then.

Surely its not just some poorly thought out cash grab right?

You can put a NASA logo* decal on your car, but that doesn't make you a member of NASA or allow you to make any decisions for NASA.

You can put a xeno ally decal on your ship, but that doesn't make you an Xeno or somebody that the Xenos actually consider an ally.

I would say because there is nothing wrong with that idea within the game. And by that I mean Humans saying "Let's be friends with these aliens".

The problem is the Aliens don't think in the same way. It's not that they don't want to be freinds... it's that they don't understand or have need of the concept of frendship.

Humans are individuals. We have therefore evolved and developed social systems that allow us to work in larger groups to improve our individual chances of survival and to achieve more than we could as individuals. This started as tribes and families. These days it carries on, still with the tribes and families, but all with religions, political parties, sports teams, yoga classes, Facebook groups, forum memberships etc etc. It is a Human way of working in large groups.

The Thargoids aren't Humans. They are more like Bees or Ants. The majority have no real free will. They are disposable drones, controlled by Princesses and Queens, via pheromones and some sort of telepathic link. There is no memberships and there is no choice.

Even if there was a way to work for the Thargoids in a mercenary capacity, I can't see it working as a Human is going to be treated like a drone. The controlling Queen will expect absolute obedience and compliance. Your opinion is not required:

You would be told to 'Go here. Destroy this.' and you would be expected to go there and destroy that. No ifs. No buts. No, just after I've done this other thing. Or it might be, 'Go there and destroy Human ships until you are destroyed.' and that is what they would expect to happen. Your life, and he impact on people you know is utterly irrelevant because you are a voluntary drone.

All that said, that is just how I think is it based on what we know about Thargoids. FDEV might think otherwise. But for me it would be like going up to an Ant Queen that could somehow communicate with and asking to work for her. It's just not going to work as your the wrong species to work as part of the hive.

You are free to fight 'for' the goids, in the way that you can attack people that fight against the goids. Thats also the point of the 'xeno-ally' decals.
But you can't side with the goids, because the goids want to see humanity dead. They don'talk to other species.
The goids don't care on which side you think you are, for them you are the enemy. Its like postitioning yourself infront of a wasp-nest and proclaiming that you will defend it against the exterminator. You can do that, but don't expect gratitude from the wasps, or any acknowledgment of an alliance.
