Proposal Discussion ** BLENDER ** hope of compatibility ?

it would be nice for players managing with blender (or to kidnap somebody working on it) to show their dream model and to make it work in the game.

same idea for buildings you want to become the owner on a little planet or asteroid.

Does exist an indirect other possibility if it does not match at the first time ?

Here's my blender model (untextured) that I am working on...

And lifting some valuable cargo..

Nice work, love the cockpit and engines. Perhaps needs hard edges around the door frames and for the door faces?

I doubt you would see any player designs/meshes in-game though. Maybe FD might consider a player design competition (winning entry to be remodelled by FD to their rules) once they have completed the first few updates and all the important and juicy planetary landings, walking around your ship and stations etc.....

I reckon Star Citizen is the game to pimp your models in at the moment, as they could be used on a private server. It would be great to see some of that happening in Elite too though, down the line. I've made a really poor attempt at a 'snake's-head' inspired spaceship myself, but it's nowhere near Speedbrake's standard.

From my little experience of Blender, I think the model is using a sub-surf modifier to give it smooth edges. There's some way of making the edges harder I think, but I'm not sure how. Something to do with 'edge crease' possibly. Probably on Speedbrake's to-do list.

It is a good idea but there are already 25 space ships in the game and Frontier will certainly make others in the future. It will certainly be the same for buildings. Although the idea is appealing, I think Frontier should keep his own personality and integrity

You can select specific faces to be rendered smooth (and in which direction(s) you want them to be smoothed) without having to resort to adding more geometry. It isn't as accurate as subdividing the mesh but a lot less work for the 3d engine.

It was just an observation though - I do think the overall model is great. It's like a cross between a Space 1999 Eagle lifter a modern passenger jet and Thunderbirds passenger liners.

Sorry it an old render and the smoothing around the door frames is fixed (by adding another set of edges).

It would be nice if they had a competition as there are some very talented modders out there. I like the idea of the game mechanic of having to 'hover' ,for want of a better word, over your cargo module accurately to retrieve it and like wise to deploy it. Haven't done a spaceship before so its been fun.

I try and ovoid modifiers wherever I can, although mirror is used extensively at the moment, currently there are no subsurface modifiers on this ship.

Speedbrake , your model make me think to the film DUNE , in which the desertic planet Arrakis is the source of very precious Spice .

It is harvested by agricol vehicles , which are transported by aircraft with aspect very close to your model .

Good artistic work !
