blocking players

so - you can block players correct? then they wont be put into the same instance as you.

can you block a player simply by knowing what their ID is, or do you have to encounter them in game first and then mark "block" ?

pity there's no naming and shaming on this board, or the 'parking in stations" griefers ID's could be published and normal players could just block them en-masse. problem solved.

I think the whole 'blocking players from your instance' has been dropped. It just blocks comms and you cannot do it except from the comms screen at the time. Basically it's now a practically useless 'feature'.

Hello Commanders!

In this instance, blocking the Commander might prove quite useful.

When you block somebody, a couple of things should happen.

Firstly, you will receive no communications from them.

Secondly, during any transition where matchmaking is at work (so basically, hyperspace jumps, entering and exiting super cruise) you are much less likely to be matched with the blocked Commander.

Blocking becomes weaker when it comes up against friends (and next year, player wings), because if a blocked Commander is in the same session as a friend (say, because they haven't blocked the Commander, the blocking effect is overruled by the friendship matchmaking.

Outside of this case though, blocking should work fine.

but you still need to encounter the CMDR before you can block them? or can you search ID and block?

also needed is a reliable method of reporting & cataloging griefers IDs, since there is a no naming-and-shaming policy here (which i don't really understand)

So, basically, make sure you have no friends and then you can block people just fine :) If you want to block somebody just by the name, you apparently have to "friend" him first and then you can block him from the friend list. The "friend" request has to be approved though, so it is kinda broken as most other things in the game.
