Horizons blown up twice

That hurt. $700K in insurance paid out, abandoned mission ($100K)... now I'm sitting here stewing waiting for the Galactic Map to load. Fun game. Really enjoying it.

What are these interdictors armed with? Two shots and I'm DEAD, military-grade hull, shields, shield boosters notwithstanding. Why did I pay for those items? They are useless.

Where the hell do I find a fighter bay? My Keelback is too exposed and AI players like this are insanely powerful. [knocked out]

OK, found a fighter bay without looking for it. Really tired of getting blown up.

It is normal to be destroyed frequently in the beginning, but soon enough you will get the hang of things and be destroyed less :p

By the way... Not all ships support a fighter bay. For the ones that do, this is told in the description.

You have more chances of being interdicted if you are carrying cargo or have a bounty on you somewhere (it doesn't even need to be the system in which you are). If you ship still isn't ready for combat, you may intentionally submit to the interdiction (throttle to zero), then right afterwards keep boosting your ship, and then charge your FSD when it is ready. When you submit the FSD gets online much faster than when you are forced into interdiction.

The first ship you get isn't good for combat. I suggest you to wait until you have at least a Cobra MkIII before engaging in combat. It isn't too expensive, and it is perhaps the best early game ship. And it gets even better when you upgrade it with better parts. :)

On a final note, not all ships are intended for combat. For example, the ship might be intended for trading, mining, exploration, or passenger transport instead. Just because a ship costs a lot, it doesn't necessarily means that it does well in combat. The ship you got isn't a combat one, those non-combat ships are the ones which usually have a fighter bay.

At any rate, fly safe ^_^

The keelback is not a fighter... I've lost mine as well. The fighter will help, it keeps them distracted while you run or hammer them. I recommend running from a fight if you are going against a dedicated fighter.

I've parked mine for now, still a good mission runner. I've bought a FGS and it is a beast. I stripped my FAS of engineered parts so she is fairly capable.

Thank you and thank you -- I was interdicted again and deployed my fighter with its skilled pirate and promptly destroyed the attacker! I think this is going to be worth the cargo space I had to give up for it, plus the 12% need to split with the fighter pilot!!!!

[big grin]

This and carry a few mines.

Keelback = Trading, therefore, you need speed to get away. So unless you understand the 'black art' of beating the blue circle game, submit and keep pointing towards your current destination. 5 seconds after you drop, you are ready to recharge and go again. Hanging around and wondering what you should or shouldn't do, is not an option, not in a cheaper, lower class ship.

What is your setup? sounds rather odd, especially if they are near your level as they should be? what did they fly? maybe via http://coriolis.edcd.io/ show your setup?

This does the job, for me at the moment. Spent long enough building it. Would be nice to be able to fit a fighter bay in it, but then it would be a little OP.

The Cobra MK III is an amazing ship, one you will be in a for a long time (so get used to it). Sadly FD has not released the MKIV for normal people (kinda stupid really) which has some better fighting capabilities (better hard point layout + 1 more small then the MK3). Both ships are Milti Role ships, that means they are able to do EVERYTHING, but not better then a specialized ship could.

The Cobra is a good ship for trading AND protecting its cargo, its well shielded and armored, and has a good spread of weapons (its agility ain't bad either). With is Class 2 guns being directly under the cockpit, they make for some good fixed guns, like Burst or Beam lasers. The 2 small hard points are out under the wing "tips". They are not good for fixed guns and its best to use Gimballed multicannons or missiles (aka these HP's are good for anti hull guns like MC/cannons/missiles).

Its got a good carrying capacity (42 if I recall correctly) and a good jump range. Overall its a great ship to be in, as I was in mine for over a year before I got off my duff and really worked on getting into bigger ships (in a conda now, working on rank for Fed Corv).
The build I had in the end
https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/cob...0303034501012o.Iw1/kA==.Aw1/kA==.&bn=My Cobra

After the Cobra I got into the Python, which is more of a fighter then a multi role ship, but again, in Elite ANY ship can do ANY role, just how well they do it is dependent on what the ship was made to do. I mostly bounty hunted in that ship, and it really did feel like a mini conda in its HP layout. Sadly this ship, despite being quite big, didn't get a fighter bay (for some unknown reason, because its bigger then a Federal Gunship, and that one did get a fighter).

Apparently some fighters may be glitched, as someone supposedly reported their corvette's shield going down in 2 seconds from fighters.

someone probably butt hurt over getting pwned by one. The Tipan with Plasma will knock out shields fairly quickly, and deal good hull damage too.
