Blue Ring appeared on radar while on planet surface

Hi,

I'm checking out one of the moons in a system. I am out of super-cruise and flying at low level. What does it mean when you see a blue ring on your radar? As I flew forward, it passed to my left. I immediately made a 180 and retraced my steps (following my wake), saw it again but then looked like it moved out of the way. Made multiple passes but can't find it again, at least in the same spot or area. [where is it]

Assuming you're new, it's a point of interest on the surface. Land and investigate with the buggy, you never know what you might find...

Thank you. I will try but it was moving on the radar (I don't believe it was static) and now I can't see it on radar anymore. The other reason could be because Maybe it's just a very narrow spot on the ground and i keep missing it while flying with my ship.

Just look out the next time you see one. They're not persistent, and are random.

This sounds like one of the new geological features POI they are small and don't grow to fill the radar as you fly over them. land asap and hop into your SRV. I understand they have a unique sound signal, so you should be able to locate it.

For the more usual POI Vindicator Jones posted a great guide to locating here..

Good luck

A couple of useful tips.

1. They are only visible within a certain altitude range - approximately 2-5 km. Go too low and it'll disappear.

2. Zoom your radar all the way out (Page Up key by default) to see them more easily.

Like this? :D

(That's Beagle point, 65,000Ly from home. It's what happens when hundreds of players land in one remote location :) )

Similar but way smaller and it was empty inside and there was only one. I was maybe less than 1km from surface (radar not in ground mode). Can't find it anymore. It simply disappeared. I looked out the cockpit in that direction but i could not see anything on the ground. It's a very rough terrain, can't find a place to land. I will try the srv but i think it's just gone.

Yeah sorry, that's an exagerrated example.

More will appear if you simply fly around, this video has a good example of one of the many things it could be and how to use the scanner on the SRV although it is from January so a bit dated now:

Most things are man-made etc but there are points of interest for clusters of rare resources sometimes.

Watched both videos, thank you. Although the ring on my radar appeared empty inside and didn't grow. Maybe it was one of those new geological features POI Oldric mentioned. I'll keep flying around a bit and visit different areas to see if I get a re-spawn or something else.
On a different note, there's really no point in flying in super-cruise when checking out planets? You won't be able to see anything in super-cruise, right? It's just to pick a point that looks interesting to you, then you are supposed to drop out of SC and fly around the area to see if there is anything interesting?

I found it. It was a ship. Intact not a wreck. I targeted and it says "Sytem Defence Force". It looks like it's landed at the moment. I'm like 10000ly from the bubble! I'm in solo.
