Blurry, muddy textures fix?

Fortunately 65" 4k120hz Monitors are coming out this year :)

But make sure to disable supersampling OR DSR. Don't do both as it will kill FPS and eat all your VRAM. Not even sure 16GB of VRAM is enough for '16k'...

Yes, but he isn't the one who is having problems with textures...

Maybe in OP's case it is, but like I said, I have 1080Ti so... It's not even a new bug, and I think it's affecting only some people.

Would you mind monitoring your VRAM usage with Rivatuner? Have you tried without supersampling so it's just 1x? I'm assuming this is without DSR as well.

This sounds silly, but make sure no other games are running too. If I alt tab one game, and launch Elite, I run out of VRAM.

Your 11GB's should definitely be enough for 1 1440p monitor, even with 1.25x SS, so it may be something else....

R9 290X (4GB)

Planets have always looked pretty pants anywhere except for extrmely long distance, or extremely close up.

The mid range just... looks bad.

I tried without Supersampling/DSR, it does work better, but looks ugly. The thing is that it deteriorates as I play, it might just take a bit longer on lower resolutions (or maybe never if I play at 1080p). I definitely do not run any other games while playing Elite and I suspect it's the engine that doesn't use the VRAM properly.
I might run Rivatuner later, although last build is from 2009, not sure how it works with newer cards.

I have a GTX 960 and I get this too. Seems like a VRAM shortage. I can confirm that it only gets worse as a session goes on. I tried lowering the SS but it still occurs, though not as frequently. I have just been logging out and back in periodically and it seems to reset the VRAM

The latest version of Rivatuner was released about a month ago:

*note it is highly suggested to install MSI afterburner/EVGA Precision/etc to control the overlay!

It is interesting how Supersampling will affect this. I only use supersampling when streaming to a 1080p display (2.0) which means it performs exactly as it would at 2160p without supersampling.
As soon as I game above 2160p, textures will downgrade automatically over a planet or in a station.
1440p@1.25 scaling is about more than half the resolution of 4k, so it should not really be a performance issue.

What about using DSR and no supersampling? These are very similar, so it may help...

If it gets worse for a lot of people the longer they game, could there be a memory leak? I really have no clue, as I always a minimum of 4GB of VRAM available.

Right now I am playing with DSR and no supersampling, but yeah, same stuff. It could be a memory leak...
I will get the Rivatuner tonight and try it out, thanks. Seems I failed at googling :)

Sorry to hear. Here is latest link to MSI Afterburner too: https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner

If it is a memory leak, not sure what else we can do other than not use any form of Supersampling. I used to use GEMFX's x2 SMAA + MLAAx4 which looked pretty good on my old 1080p monitor. Not sure if that is still possible...
