Body Exclusion zone

Anyone else hit this?
It must have been recently introduced I surmise, although I could be wrong.
Got some nice selfie's while I was there though! Screenshot_0335.jpgScreenshot_0332.jpgScreenshot_0337.jpg

If by "recently" you mean at launch of the game in December, then yes. ;)

...unless you but the planetary landing expansion...

ELI5 version: In beta people could go as far into celestial bodies as they wanted, "landing on planets" and even stars, all it took was time to get to the actual "model" of a body. Once you got there, since planetary landings isn't in game yet, you would clip through it and go inside the planet/star. It was glitchy.

So the Body Exclusion Zone is a fix for all that. So if you get too close to the model, the zone says "GOWAI".

ha ha, thanks for the reply. I'm sure I saw a post of someone who went right down near to the surface of a planet, but that must have been still in Beta then, whish is when I started playing :)

I did that all the time in the early builds. :)

Here for example...

Not quite ready for mass consumption though... ;)

However, the important thing here is that the textures kept on generating more and more detail the closer you got even back then...this even happened back in Alpha. Later "simply" polish and apply these heightmaps as a displacement on some dynamic subdivisions instead of as a normal map and tada! 3D terrain...after that there is just this "small thing" of adding vegetation, atmosphere, clouds, wildlife, buildings/cities/settelments, vehicles...*cough cough* :D

Ah I see, cool video, thanks for the info :)
I think this is the most eagerly anticipated feature for me, when it finally arrives

Wow, that is such a cool shot.
All we need to see now is some giant Dune worms and a few hover ships skitting over the surface, with a city in the distance :)

I went through a phase of going down to the BEZ on every interesting planet I discovered.

It is worth doing every now and again just to see the amazing detail and colours and textures on some planets. Why only occasionally...it can easily becomes all-consuming and you find lots of time has passed and you haven't gone anywhere - get close enough at low speed (to avoid one of those damaging emergency drop outs), stop, look around in genuine awe and wonder, take a few snaps, re-orientate and pose the ship, take some more snaps, do this again, recharge the FSD, find the Escape Vector and fly off to the next one.

I love it.

Flying happy
