Anyone have any recommendations for books in the spirit of Elite? I know of the various books written in the Elite universe, and I'm currently listening to the audiobook of Elite: Tales from the Frontier. The short stories are okay, but they're not really doing it for me. I'll probably try one of the novels next, but they're kind of short, and I usually prefer longer reads. I'm looking for a novel (preferably in audiobook format, since I have a long commute) about small ship traders or scout-types. I'll throw one out there: Merchanter's Luck, by C.J. Cherryh. A down-on-his-luck merchanter runs into trouble when he gets mixed up with a powerful trading family and the Alliance navy. It's short, but I enjoyed it. I've read most of the Niven known-space stuff, some of which is kind of similar (involving ships, pilots and exploration, if not trade).
I know there are a few other book threads out there, but I didn't see anything quite on this topic (non-Elite books in a similar vein).
