Hello CMDRs,
I want to get a book set in the Elite universe, I know there's a fair amount of Elite literature out there so I just wanted to ask what's a good starting point. I really would like it to be in paper form, or even audio book, as I don't like looking at a screen while I lay in bed having a little read.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Hi CMDR,
There was a sticky thread on this, but it seems to have been removed for some reason and it was probably out of date anyway.
Off the top of my head and sticking to Elite Dangerous (ie. Canon stuff for the current game) the list is as follows:
Elite : Reclamation by Drew Wagar (me!

) - A Sequel is due out later this summer in 2017.
Elite : Mostly Harmless by Kate Russell
Elite : And Here the Wheel by John Harper
Elite : Tales from the Frontier - Anthology of short stories by multiple authors
Elite : Out of the Darkness by T. James
Elite : Docking is Difficult by Gideon Defoe
Elite : Nemorensis by Simon Spurrier
Elite : Wanted by Gavin Deas
Elite : Legacy by Michael Brookes
Elite : Lave Revolution by Allen Stroud
You can see what people think of them via the
amazon reviews if you're interested. Of these, Reclamation, Mostly Harmless, And Here the Wheel and Tales from the Frontier are available as audio books either from
Audible or
direct from the publisher in various MP3 formats.
In terms of a starting point, there isn't really one to be honest. Most of the books are set in the now, or recent past, of Elite Dangerous and are stand-alone works, so there's no need to read them in a particular order. I'd have a look at the amazon reviews and see what takes your fancy, it's fair to say some books have been better received than others.
Reclamation, if you'll forgive me for plugging my own story, does feature an in-game storyline that is still being played out as we speak. Details are in the
Formidine Rift thread in the main discussion forum.
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Drew.
