Fiction Book recommendations

Hello CMDRs,

I want to get a book set in the Elite universe, I know there's a fair amount of Elite literature out there so I just wanted to ask what's a good starting point. I really would like it to be in paper form, or even audio book, as I don't like looking at a screen while I lay in bed having a little read.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Hi CMDR,

There was a sticky thread on this, but it seems to have been removed for some reason and it was probably out of date anyway.

Off the top of my head and sticking to Elite Dangerous (ie. Canon stuff for the current game) the list is as follows:

Elite : Reclamation by Drew Wagar (me!:D) - A Sequel is due out later this summer in 2017.
Elite : Mostly Harmless by Kate Russell
Elite : And Here the Wheel by John Harper
Elite : Tales from the Frontier - Anthology of short stories by multiple authors
Elite : Out of the Darkness by T. James
Elite : Docking is Difficult by Gideon Defoe
Elite : Nemorensis by Simon Spurrier
Elite : Wanted by Gavin Deas
Elite : Legacy by Michael Brookes
Elite : Lave Revolution by Allen Stroud

You can see what people think of them via the amazon reviews if you're interested. Of these, Reclamation, Mostly Harmless, And Here the Wheel and Tales from the Frontier are available as audio books either from Audible or direct from the publisher in various MP3 formats.

In terms of a starting point, there isn't really one to be honest. Most of the books are set in the now, or recent past, of Elite Dangerous and are stand-alone works, so there's no need to read them in a particular order. I'd have a look at the amazon reviews and see what takes your fancy, it's fair to say some books have been better received than others.

Reclamation, if you'll forgive me for plugging my own story, does feature an in-game storyline that is still being played out as we speak. Details are in the Formidine Rift thread in the main discussion forum.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Drew.

Pretty good they are too, those I've read too... Except the one by that Wagar guy... He's an Imperial spy and not to be trusted.

<Checks bounty hunter budget and nods knowingly before signing paperwork> ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

Lol... I've heard you on Dockers.
The books good tho... I got the Audible version and looking forward to the sequel... Tho I guess we have to wait for the CoR and Formadine stuff to sort itself out...

Handy guide to books for those unfamiliar with this concept. :)

Thanks everyone :)

I've been googling your answers and checking online stores /amazon

What I meant by somewhere to start, was not the Elite universe itself as I'm happy to jump in anywhere, was what you think is one of the better books out there :) And its helped so thanks

here is what I'd recommend:

- the dark wheel. the original novella that came with elite 1 .... you can read it online.

- Tales from the Frontier. i really enjoyed to get a lot of different perspectives on the elite world.

- elite : reclamation. beside the mentioned connection to the formidine rift, and a still ongoing ingame story, it helped me a lot to grasp what the empire is about.

enjoy!

I've not read all the ED books yet but my current favourite is "And Here The Wheel" by John Harper. It's a great link from the FFE storyline to ED.

Thanks CMDRs

Elite: Reclamation is on it's way to the small box with numbers on it, outside my house.
