Bookmark improvements,your thoughts ?

As others have previously mentioned, there are many ways to improve bookmarks, like total number allowed, folders, filters, icon colours. Any one of those would improve our experience hugely.

Currently I have resorted to adding my own prefix to group my BMs together. This is ok but not ideal.
For example I have an ENG: prefix for engineers I have visited. The purple icon given to us for engineers is not bad but falls short in many ways(can't set as route, difficulty finding which engineer it belongs to unless you move map around).
I also have prefixes for raw material planets I visit, missions(factions I am allied to), Guardians, Thargoids, facilities, interesting places yet to be visited, and many more....

Two simple improvements should shut most of us up : Give us the option to set different colours for our BM flags and total BM limit.
Even better would be a folder system in the map, allowing us to group BMs(and when we choose to highlight a folder, all other bookmarks disappear)

FD : You are calling 2018 the year of "Quality Of Life" in ED, and if bookmarks are being improved in Q4 then thanks. If not, please listen to us as the current way CMDRs group and set their BMs is unreasonable and messy.

Also a fan of prefixes. Folders or some kind of tag system which could be used for filtering would be super.

All good ideas - I use a suffix but a prefix would group them together better so I might change to that ... I raised a thread in the "suggestions" forum to have bookmarks accessible from the Target Panel - with the exiting nearby destinations still available via a "Local" vs "Bookmark" option for quick navigation without loading the galaxy map.

Yup, another prefix user here and definitely support the idea of coloured folders. I did a mockup a while back of the sort of thing I had in mind ...

I'd also really like to be able see my description/name for a bookmark on the galaxy map. So often I'll see a bookmark near my current location and have no idea what it is or why I added it.

NO to folders.

Whenever you think folders, think TAGS instead. Reuses the existing in-game systems and is much more flexible. A bookmark can have multiple tags attached, and clicking tags on-and-off filters which bookmarks are shown.

But yes, we definitely need a more flexible and manageable bookmarks system. The current system is the barest minimum.

Bonus: Allow route-plotting along a sequence of bookmarks (auto-plotting in-between bookmarks as necessary) to set up a route with waypoints. We have this on our hand-held GPS systems in the 21st century, why on earth doesn't our shipboard navigation computer have this in the 34th century?
Extended Bonus: Allow sharing bookmarks and routes.
Extended Bonus: Planetary-surface bookmarks.

I also use prefixes, and I would rather use folders.

If they could also better integrate the galaxy and system maps into the main interface -- even it it just involves a (very) quick animation on opening/closing -- that would be nice, too.

As it is, they feel tacked on.

+1 for prefixes as a workaround until we have a better bookmarking system. There have been rumours that this may come as part of the Q4 updates, but who knows?

Tags aren't a bad idea but I suspect a folder system, with the ability to match different tags to different folders and switch on or off the display of each folder's tag in the galaxy map, would be easier to manage than just tagging alone, even if it meant sometimes duplicating entries.

Id prefer a more practical tagging system than folders but at this point would settle fer either. If there was some sorta filter to filter out what bookmarks we can actually see at any given time, that would be just peachy too.

Not sure on whether or not the limit needs to be expanded cos Ive yet to reach the limit to find out what it is in the first place

+1 to Alec's idea. Tags & filters would be nice, but are probably over-complicated: generally I just need to scan my list for say "good shipyard" rather than spend a minute or two setting up filters, looking at the map, and then switching the filter back to its previous settings. I think we just need to streamline the existing setup rather than come up with a whole new one.

Been asking for this since forever.

Plentful.

Colour Coded.

Groupable.

Switched visibility.

Filters.

Folders.

i got a ton of things to show.

The number of bookmarks will always never be enough.

That's why the ability to export/import an XML file of them would also be a good feature.

Alec +1
Look, I am not asking for 1000s or unlimited BMs, I know that would put a strain everytime we open the GalMap. 400-500 should quieten most of us.
XML is also a fab idea,ED can read that file until it reaches its own hard limit, and ignore the rest.

We all clearly have a management problem with bookmarks. Inevitable with so many placed.

I support the colors request. In my opinion this is the #1 priority !

So often, I too see bookmarks on the map but wonder why they are there. So the description name on the galaxy map would help further with this.

Prefixes here too.
0-manumattrader-station name
0-datatrader-station name
1-crashedanaconda-planet name
2-pristinemining-planet name

I use INARA to find mat traders of course but sometimes I just want to quickly locate one nearby in game and the galaxy map's 40LY limit filter just blows.
0- and 1- puts these on the top of my bookmarks list.

I'd like to see folders or labeling/colorcoding and ability to store about 250 bookmarks.
