Bookmark limit

Currently you can have only 128 bookmarks (systems, planets, stations). Given that there are some 400 billion systems, that seems a tad limited. It could use an upgrade to about 1024, which seems like a more practical limit and at which point some kind of organisation would become necessary (folders, groups, tags,...).

I want to see the bookmarks expanded so I can do away with external note-taking.
  1. Grouping tags into routes, to easily remember my explorations and best rares routes.
  2. Being able to bookmark coordinates, on planet surfaces.
  3. Increasing the number of bookmarks
  4. A full text field to allow descriptions to be written.
  5. API access so that external tools can read and possibly write to these for some powerful add-on possibilities.

Your thoughts?

The ability to filter, group, and color bookmarks would be a good addition to the list. Especially the colors. I would love to have different colors for different groups of bookmarks. And being able to filter which groups of them display would be swell.

I've just used them for marking points of interest in the bubble but I have seen some explorers use them like breadcrumbs which I can see would be very helpful, especially if presented with no way forward. I would like to see more bookmarks and in different colors for quick reference. I would really like to be able to bookmark planetary coordinates by being able to scan a planet and mark latitude and longitude while in supercruse orbit.

Never ran into a bookmark limit. But I do use the search feature a lot.

In Exploration I tend to plot my Route every 1,000 Ly or less. Use my Book mark for them.

I still hardly use the book make feature, because the main thing i would like to bookmark are planetary landing coordinates for Tip offs!
Which we can't do. Lol
I do have a few bookmarks for some places that spawned good missions.

So yeah, +1, especially for planetary coordinates bookmarking.

If the current limit is 128 something I'm guessing they are storing a char index somewhere currently :p .
Which would imply the limit is in the packet size and latency and that this is a bandwidth optimization for when you pull up your galactic map and it needs to stream in all your bookmarks. If they just cached this it would take a much bigger load off their servers, the map would load much quicker on our end (try going in twice after eachother, there is a 30 second delay each time, this could be reduced).
Anyway, with 4 billion systems, limiting this to so few bookmarks isn't useful to me.

Bookmark Limit

Are the devs going to increase the bookmark limit as i have hit the limiter. It's very frustrating.
Yes/No? Will it be included in the next release?

It would be great to setup a bookmark folder structure for routes, stations, locations and be able to apply different colours to them.

hit my limit last night.
plotting course to Jacques station and thought i had
found a location which was somehow locked.

i would like to see a folder system in place. a fairly large increase in
number of bookmarks i can have as well.
many of the other ideas here would be of great use.

TBH, I don't really use bookmarks that often at the moment. If I'm trading/mission running/mining, I don't need that many, if any, bookmarks as I'm rarely more than a single jump from anywhere I need to be, and opening the galaxy map (which can sometimes take a while) in order to access bookmarks is annoying.

I can see how 128 would be extremely limiting for exploration or for role-playing.

I think improvements to the management of bookmarks (as the OP suggests) need to be made before or at the same time as the limit is increased - even the current 128 would be a pain to work with at present without, at least, the ability to group them, add a description, and access them without the galaxy map - "I know one of these 128 bookmarks was that site of that alien artifact I found, but I just can't remember which! Maybe I'll remember when the galaxy map finally opens!"

Yeah I hit the limit a few times. Had to mark down the least important ones on paper and then delete them. Deleting doesn't always work thou and I have to exit galaxy map and then re-enter galaxy map to continue.

I like to have "tabs" of bookmarks. e.g. one for engineer locations, one for a neutron superway, one for "interesting" places etc. Sure, cap it at a total of say 1000, but at least give us the opportunity to manage them.

This is what I had in mind :) .

I've been trying to delete old ones in order to mark neutron stars between the outposts leading to Colonia, but it's been so long since I made some of them that I can't remember why I marked certain systems or planets in the first place. Just being able to name them would be a huge step forward. That and some way to keep track of systems and stellar bodies we discovered would be super. 1/4 of my bookmarks are systems I have my name on.

For RP reasons, when I'm out exploring I like to find worlds with actual breathable atmospheres and mark them down as oasis to build paths. Often high metal content worlds are more hospitable than ELWs or water worlds. I've had to delete over 40 of my other marked destinations, even a couple I shouldn't have by accident. It would also be nice to make specific notes on them.

I still am desperate for easier ways to label the galaxy then keeping notes outisde the game or buying three sidewinders to use the name tags for a short sentence....
