Bookmark planet coordinates?

Unfortunately, No......
I've heard Sandro mention in a couple videos that they'd "like" to do that, but never seems to get high enough on the priority list to appear in one of the updates. Still crossing my fingers! Regards.

In an attempt to not sound too snarky.....Horizons should never have been released without a means to pin/flag/bookmark a coordinate. Grossly over looked so far.

If some form of plant side bookmarking is added in the Q4 update, I'll be surprised. I hope it's there but FDev have a habit of not doing what we think they should, and add other stuff.

According to official statement (can't find the source, as usual in such cases) FDEVs "don't see a gameplay value behind bookmark/navigation involving planetary coordinates". Hence the low priority.

Instead we have "quality and engaging gameplay" with lat/long coord counters.

Could be that a lot of the things we would likely bookmark are placed by the RND god and aren't persistant. I can't see a problem for bookmarking landmarks or well static items on a planet, it is something I would probably use a lot and get more players down on a surface. What worries me is if they aren't doing surface bookmarks for airless planets, does that mean we still won't be able to do it for atmospheric planets, where there should be heaps of interesting things to see!

The source was a stream from ages ago, I asked the question during the stream, and got the answer you butchered above lol.

Edit: Since that was asked, however, there have been a shed load of surface stuff added so I struggle to see how their comment is still valid.

This should be a priority, plus we should be able to set a waypoint on a planet, the current system of navigating to a point is not fun.

I wrote my own POI client which interfaces to my EDServer which in turn monitors and sends keystrokes to the active process (Elite) :)

A bit like VA with no voice :)

Seriously? You are joking right?

Planetary bookmarks and being able to share them with wingmates could be the setup for planetary canyon races?!?!?!?

The better statement in my opinion, would be... "FDev don't have anyone with the imagination to see a gameplay value behind bookmark/navigation involving player coordinates"

Player get-to-gethers
Player designed and run quests
General POI recording
Crashed ships locations
and a whole host more

Like I said, imagination key and apparently lacking...

It's a quality of life thing we'll get one day but it's not as important as bug fixing, fleet carriers, squadrons, more ships and new missions... and of course 2019 DLC

One of the most useful features... well no we dont have it. Some fanboys will tell ya that its good because you need to apply "skill" to find the location ya been already.

In my eyes, there is no sane reason why we cant make our own bookmarks on the surface in this "sandbox" game with one of the biggest maps in gaming history - every moon or rocky planet that we can land on is bigger than ya average game map....

Hey grumpy, would you be so kind as to quote these fanboys you mentioned?

I don't think anyone has said that bookmarks for surface features is a bad idea, or isn't needed.

In a livestream a while back someone asked Sandro about this in the chat, and his answer was that maybe someday they'll add it but it is not planned for Beyond or 2018. So that's the official answer as of today.

My guess is we'll never see them, despite how incredibly useful a feature it would be for nearly everyone who plays the game.

As far as I know the last comment on this worth noting was this from Sandro, some time ago:

“We want this and have done for a little while, but its finding the right time and feature to slide it in with”
