Hello everyone. I need some help with the books and back story of Elite universe. There are lots of things to read but I would like to know where to start with them.
Is there an order on the books where I should follow?

Thank you in advance.

The new fiction is stand alone, i.e. the stories aren't interconnected so it doesn't really matter in which order you read them. The best starting point is probably "Legacy" by Michael Brookes as it's the official novel that accompanies the game. That said I have really enjoyed "Lave Revolution", "Reclamation" "And Here the Wheel", "Out of the Darkness" and the collection of short stories which I think was called "Tales from the Frontier". Have a look through the threads on the official fiction board for further info:

In particular this thread might be of interest:

.
There are other books published through Golcanz as well that I haven't read but I think would be pretty good as well.
.
You could also seek out the original story from Elite which was "The Dark Wheel" by Robert Holdstock for some real background reading!
.
Happy reading whatever you choose.

EDIT: Also this thread deals with your very question! https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25578

There are subtle 'links' between the books; they tend to have obtuse references to each other, but you need to hunt for them.

Also worth noting that some of the main characters from the books have made an appearance in the Galnet news articles. In particular Lady Kahina from Reclamation likes to make a stir now and again...

Thank you all very much for the info!!! Probably I will start with the "Dark Wheel" which is the first and continue to your suggestions. Thank you!!!

I purchased "Tales from the Frontier" on Kindle from Amazon or something.

Really struggled through it. Nothing really piqued my interest - I'm not a big science fiction reader, but I already know that I like hard science fiction, and this collection of stories was anything but.

I bought the book due to my work/life balance - my work is an aeroplane trip from home and this means I can only play ED every other week: and balance this with time with family, kids, etc. I guess effectively I really only manage to get in one whole day of playing in every two weeks. I digress...

.... so I bought the book to read, when on planes or in my accommodation at work, with the hope that it would feed by ED appetite in the absence of "being" in the ED galaxy. Sadly, aside from familiar ship and system names, I felt no connection.

I know some authors of the stories are contributors here, and I'm sorry for the criticism. Just my opinion.

If there are any other good suggestions out there for other ED fiction - stuff that's pretty hard or edgy, I'd love to know. I'm willing to give it another try.
