Boost Engines and Engine upgrades

If there isnt something like this already implemented...
it would be so good if they added engine upgrades, like they cost ALOT and use up heaps of energy but will make your ship either faster in a straight line or turn faster or a balance of both. this would give the smaller ships just that small extra advantage when facing an enemy with a pricey ship.

Maybe a toggle temporary boost system where you can choose to upgrade your engine in a manner similar to what i said before, but can toggle it so it wont drain any power, but will make your ship heavier and harder to handle when it is off. (and enter a cool-down period when you turn it off or something like that)

i just want to have more variety and uniqueness to my ships... ^_^

So waitwaitwait... You want to give the Viper even MORE of an advantage over the Ships costing almost 1000x more?

I'll be looking forward to maybe tuning your engines to add maneuverability or speed etc depending on your tweaks, maybe 2% more to one with 2% less for everything else. Customise to your Playstyle. But as it is now, the big ships are already at a disadvantage to every small ship out there, especially in terms of speed and agility.

Are you really, really new to Elite Dangerous? Look in Outfitting under Thrusters. Upgraded thrusters will do exactly what you desire! They're expensive above Class 4 (1.6MCr for Class 4A!) Boosting/max speed are limited by your ship type I think, but acceleration and power/heat usage are affected by class, and the mid-classes, especially B are very heavy.

...yes, i don't even own the game yet. but i will... eventually
(don't have a good enough PC)

and i was talking about max speed and max turn speed, sorry if i didn't clarify that. and of course it would be available for ALL ships so it would be balanced, plus it would make energy consumption considerably more so you would not be able to fire your energy based weapons as fast as you would, making it further balanced? i think?
(well... i dont know if it would be balanced because i dont own the game, but i would still like to fly that slightly but faster anyway.)
also why would someone spend 1.6MCr to put one of these into a Sidewinder...

It doesn't cost that much to upgrade a sidewinder. Upgrades tend to be relative to the ship. It's not worth asking these types of questions before you get it as within five minutes you'll see for yourself. You don't need the fastest computer to run Elite just a middle of the road machine with a reasonable graphics card. You can turn the quality down.

Because the Sidewinder is pretty fast and agile, it can overturn a huge ship if it's fully upgraded. Although most Fighters will upgrade to Eagle or Viper, Upgrade those and then have an insanely quick fighter that can fly circles around your anaconda if he is skilled enough to use it. That upgrade costs a lot of money though, but can be worth it.
Modules are upgradable by Grade (F is bad, A is good) and size (1 is small, 7 is huge) etc. A bigger and better module for your thrusters increases speed and manouverability.

You can't put modules above a certain class into each ship. 2A at around 160,000Cr for the Sidewinder.

But your question will be answered when you play! Turning speed and max speed, plus acceleration/deceleration are modified by engine class. Great fun game.

...and the thread ends there.

But seriously - what you're suggesting is exactly the type of thing the current Thruster upgrades provide.
Please, wait until you get the game and play it before starting to suggest how things might need to change!

Well, give the bigger ships better stuff to balance it out, its just an idea... lol
it just seems like you fly kinda slow, even though most ships go about 340m/s which is the sound barrier lol

Just wait until you approach the mailslot at 340 for the first time. Always remember that stations are huge and space is vast and empty. Once you fly yourself, you'll realize speed much better.

Don't get me wrong, Elite: Dangerous is up there with my most wanted games. and i just want my ship to be different to most peoples...
yes yes, ok ill play the game before i jump to conclusions...

A bit off topic but i have a Lenovo x230 laptop (not my choice) with an i5 intel processor HD4000 GPU and 4GB RAM
Fallout 3 plays at around 50 fps with mods (no high texture mods) but thats a pretty old game, and i dont want to spend the little money i have on a game i cant run
(and no im not going to upgrade my PC because i need that money for a car)

There are a lot of things you can configure on your ship - skins, decals, all sorts of different module configurations etc. If there was a way to make your ship faster and more manoeuvrable, you can bet it wouldn't make you "different" because everyone else would get it too.
