Boost failed: insuficient power compacitor

Im brand new to this game and i have no idea whats going on, cant boost or do anything to travel to missions, i upgraded all my stuff i could at the station im at and i still cant do anything without boost... im litterally about to delete this game after just buying it because its giving me no instructions or even looking on forums to help me is no luck, ive seen on forums they talking about the power dis and power plant n what not so i upgraded all of those and still nothing. Im beyond frusterated at this game tbh i just want a simple answer someone new to the game would understand,

Thanks for anyone trying to help.

Have you put pips to engines?

Lower right of the HUD, there are three sets of power bars.

Sys, eng, and wep.

You need to have power in the engine capacitor, those bars display power to systems (mostly shields) engines (needed to boost) and weapons (pew pew)

You will need to use a control to put power into the engine capacitor, which will then charge up. You can then boost.

Also, in a similar place, there are cargo scoop, and landing gear indicator lights. If either of those are active, you can't boost.

The tutorials will give you a little bit of info to start with.

Make sure you have PIPS in the ENG. Also check that the power distributer is good enough for your ship, outfitting will warn you if it can't provide boost capability

Here's a random guide I just found. And a friendly forum for new people is here. Good luck! - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/75-Newcomers-amp-Introductions-Forum

As others have said, if your power distribution is not charging the engine capacitor you will have one or two boosts in it and then it will be drained and you'll get that message every time you try to boost until you feed the engine capacitor some juice.

However, you mentioned upgrades... is it possible you made the mistake of fitting a too-small power distributor? If I remember correctly you can do this and if your engine capacitor has insufficient storage for your thrusters you will be unable to boost even when its fully charged.

What DaveB and 777Driver said. Also, please check your reactor. If you're not charging fast enough, might have installed a reactor that's not putting out the juice you need.

However, 777Driver's image showing how to properly distribute power is going to be most helpful.

Just re-reading your question, are you trying to boost (like short term afterburner) or are you trying to jump to another system/supercruise to a different station within the system you are in?

OP, there's SO MUCH good information on the web and SO MANY people willing to mentor you in this game. Stay with it a while longer, get on the Elite Academy Discord Chat, meet some people and try to enjoy the learning.

After that, if you're still so frustrated at not being immediately handed the information you need, then this game is probably not for you.

Steep learning curve, we're all aware of that. But don't give up so easily!

Instead, do some training tutorials from the game menu to understand the basics and you might want to check the game manual accessible from the launcher, it's a bit outdated but will help you.

Also, check out Newcomers forum section HERE, commanders are always ready to help and answer your questions.

Good luck

Boost failed: insufficient power means, surprisingly, that you don't have enough power to use boost. On the bottom right of your ship's HUD, check the three columns pictured below. You want to look at the middle column labeled ENG (engines). If it is completely filled up (bright yellow), you're generally good to go for 1-2 boosts. If it's completely empty (or below the amount you need for 1 boost), you don't have enough power, and need to recharge it by allocating more power to it, symbolised by the four yellow dots below the column. The more bright yellow dots there are, the faster it will recharge. Check your keybindings on which key to use for that.

EDIT The keybindings should be under "power management" or something similar.

The way I read the OP is that he hasn't mapped or discovered what his Throttle or Thruster control is mapped to. If this is the case OP. Let us know.

I'm confused. You've made enough credits to upgrade things, but don't know how to use the things you upgraded? What were you doing to make enough credits in the first place?

Something isn't adding up here.

Nothing like stopping gameplay to leave the game to learn about the game. Great design! It’s not about being immediately handed anything, it’s about the information being located in the game at all, anywhere accessible other than in fragmented, incoherent pieces.

So im playing on ps4 if that makes any difference, i played this game months ago then just came back to it so i still consider my self new to the game(for people wondering why i have credits to upgrade) when i purchased it i was making lightspeed jumps anytime i wanted, doing missions all the time and i come back to it and it tells me this failed boost error, im on the starting ship, i dont even know how to check what ship i have, i have gone through the basics of that eng thing maxed out and obv my landing gear n stuff is up, i was reading forums on this earlier and they were saying to upgrade ur power supply and thrusters so i did that n nothing

Im still incredibly confused by everyones answers its kinda annoying how theres not 1 definite answer in this game when im just trying to play...

Thanks for answers i will keep looking at them and try and figure it out
