Boost not boosting

I've had a search and I'm not sure exactly how the speed boost works. I presume it gives you a temporary boost in speed, and I do have a X52 Pro button mapped to it, but when I press the button nothing happens. Do I need to be going maximum speed, or have a certain amount of power allocated to the engines before I can use it? Or even more simply is it not implemented on the Alpha 1.1, which I think is what premier beta backers are using?

It would be quite handy to keep up with Cobras, which at the moment manage to speed away from me, leaving me a sitting duck when it turns to attack.

Might be worth unbinding the joystick and rebinding it. Or just the boost button.

Yes - you need to de-select clutch mode in the joystick's control panel and also 'OK' the control panel (just apply doesn't seem to be enough).

You should be able to check that it's not in clutch mode by seeing that the POV1 LED is not affected by pressing 'i'. However, I sometimes get button info on the MFD for non-reassigned buttons when not in clutch mode which i think is wrong.

From this thread in the alpha forum if you have access.

My boost wouldn't work unless i had the X52 control panel open for some reason, weird anomaly that can effect some other games as well i found out.

This is indeed what enabled the default boost button for me on the X-52 pro throttle, still though I can't get to map the mini-mouse, the mouse button (J16) as well as any mouse wheel functions (j17 to 19) to map in the alpha version.

Yes, my X52 suffered from the same thing. It needed the control panel run in the background, or stuff wouldn't work properly. My "Smart Technology" thingy profile editor didn't work either.

I found some mention of X52 problems online, and they recommended I uninstall the profile editor and the drivers, and reinstall from scratch. I did this, and... hey presto... it worked sensibly. I no longer need the control panel open. Custom profiles now work as well.

Hope this helps.

its not that X52 clutch problem? You can turn it off somewhere in the x52 settings on dekstop somewhere!

Care to elaborate? I went through all the properties of the X52 setup and didn't find where it could be activated or deactivated?
Can you use your mini-stick and mouse button in-game?

You'll also need 6 or 7 bars in ENG power before you can boost. If you have them balanced to mainly SYS or WEP, you won't be able to once the power has been used up on the first boost.

That worked! I tried reinstalling the drivers but it was turning off clutch mode that definitely fixed it. Now I can chase down Cobras, or at least stop them getting too far away, which makes combat with them a lot more fun and tactical.
