Newcomer / Intro Boosted Vulture

got the Vulture boosted to 396 fully loaded........... nearly as fast as my old Viper.. class 3 beam and pulse... B5 shields and boosters... .. do other Vulture cmdrs plan to upgrade to Fer de Lance... ?? i dont see the point .....this turns like a house fly on speed...:)

Vulture is virtually unbeatable in a res (at the moment) if you are a good pilot, you might enjoy the fdl, but it is a bit marmite, requiring specific skills and tactics. If you want an invulnerable tank, go to python

i havent met any invulnerable Pythons..... get thru their initial blast of everything they have then they are lumbering tanks ... shame we cant hire ships to try...for an hour or so...lol

You can get more out of it if you upgrade the shields to A5, but then you get into all kinds of power management pain. You don't need beam lasers; pulse lasers are easily good enough, which will ease the power-pain.

The FdL is a superior ship - power management is less bothersome, and you get six utility mounts. I run mine with an A5 shield and four A0 shield boosters. I have it boosting past 400, and I haven't even tried to set it up for speed. I also have an SCB on priority 2 for when I really need it (which I don't, or at least haven't yet.) The FdL can masslock a Vulture too.

Vultures are great for PvE play. for PvP, not so much - I'd much rarther have the FdL.

if i had the credits i would give it a try......as with Anaconda ...Vulture can stick like glue to Python rear end not taking a hit....

I tested out configs for Shield Generators alone and combined with Shield Boosters. Lower Class Shields with appropriate boosters consumed LESS power and provided MORE MJ of shield strength.

EX. Class A SG draws 3.64 MW and provides 391.96 MJ of Shield

Class C SG draws 2.60 MW and provides 343.96 MJ of Shield

BUT, if you add a Class B Shield Booster that draws 1.00MW to a Class C SG you have a power draw of 3.60MW with a Shield total of 398.99MJ

You draw .04 MW less BUT get 7.03 MJ MORE in Shield Strength than a Class A SG alone.

I fiddled around with many variants using Coriolis.io

I ended up using a CLASS B SG with a 0D and a 0E Booster to put me at exactly 100% fully deployed using my priorities and rotated modules turned off. My Shields are 412.12 MJ

I tried using a CLASS A SG and could not even come close to this nor mitigate the power use my config needed with the A Generator. For my purposes an A Generator was overpowered and underrated compared to what I can have with my SB and SG combo.

Note: Shield regen time is longer with boosters, however I believe you can disable boosters to regen shields quicker and then turn them on after so I have seen mentioned? Also, if you need your utility mounts for other things this may not be a benefit.

i agree. I love my FDL,. Fast, big shield, great agility, firepower...love it.

The FdL is objectiely a better ship. Grind, grind grind! ;)

You can do that to get your shields back up quicker, but when you switch on the boosters, you'll see the blue rings change to red accordingly. You need a shield cell bank to get them up to strength quickly.

I'll see your 412 and raise you 855.

It's a... beast.

Apples and Oranges. FDL has 5 utility slots so no wonder you have 855 with a Class 5B SG and 4 Class A boosters. Insane Shield Strength!! Nice.

But the Manuverability of the Vulture is Awesome and I love it way too much, but I'll see how the FDL feels in a few more grinds. When you see Rip Van Winkle behind the pilot seat of an FDL in a few hundred years you'll know it's me. lol

So to sum up what "Damnthesevoices" was suggesting WRT higher or lower shields with more or less shield boosters - for a similar MJ amount is it better to:

A) Use a smaller (say 5D or 5C) shield generator with more/bigger shield boosters?

B) Use a 5A shield generator with less/smaller shield boosters?

Other factors include the overall cost and weight of the shielding package, but I was thinking that given the standard 1mj/sec recharge rate (no boosters) a smaller shield gen would charge quicker then you can switch on your boosters and away you go.

Thinking it might be timely to experiment now before you know what...

Weight is a factor for me, usually. As a general rule, dropping shield generators from A to B adds a fair chunk of weight.

But if that's negligible compared to overall weight, or irrelevant in terms of expected ship function, ignore it. :)
