Botanical aspects of the game

Hy,

I am just curious that how deep is the game in context of the flora. Since I assume that different herbivores need different plants. Plus the most Zoo has a Botanical Garden aspect as well, on the other hand this thread brings up another topic: Insects?

Insects to pollinate flowers? That would be unnecessarily complicated.
Or do you mean ambient insects roaming around the zoo? Also quite unnecessary.

I mostly meant protected insects, that usally can be seen in aquariums, these are rare and exotic species. In the food chain aspect, the only thing that came to my head with that thread is the insectivore animals, for example you need to place various insect colonies into your keep to feed a vermilingua.

There are arthropods in terrariums. We know of Goliath Birdeater Tarentula and Titan Beetle, at the moment.

As for plants, they do not change aspect with time, there is no gardening to be done with them or anything. We do have a lot of different plants though, so nothing's stopping you from making a botanical garden. You just need to place it in a way that makes guests go through it (with shops or particularly popular enclosures at the other end of it).

I think if they added gardening my head would explode from all the things we have to keep track of 😂 Plus it would make being super creative a bit more difficult if we had to make sure gardeners could reach all the plants!

Generally I think zoo games that add plant care end up with negative feedback on those systems (off the topic of my head - wildlife park and zoo constructor) so, I'm doubtful we'll have any need to look after the plants as well. The focus is on animals after all.

We can research different food for the herbivores, but I don't think that goes any deeper than improving the food quality (and probably becoming more expensive as you need to buy in more/different kinds of plants). We have no idea how deep that goes yet, I suspect not much more than flavour text and increased cost of food = happier animals.

There are some insects in the terrariums but they do not interact with gardens or anything of that sort, they're just in the terrariums to be looked at by visitors.

What eulemur wrote. We can stick trees into the ground up to their tops to create bushes, we can plant flowers under water to create see weeds, we can rotate trees and place them upside down, if we want.

Nope, botany will be of no concern in Planet Zoo - and while I am a big fan of anything plant-related, in this case, I am very happy about it! The freedom of creativity is way more valuable than an over ambitious botany simulation in a game about animals. (Imo, always just imo!)
