boting in this game?

i see quite a few player ships dock perfectly, never respond when i send a message, head in the direction of the station instantly after warp (with orienting itself, it seems atleast) and seem to get in and out of stations faster.

or are people that good and really efficient at these things?

Docking computer perhaps & an anti-social personality? :)

Or might be like me and took ages to figure out the chat lol

I would imagine if there are bots already out there, then they would play in Solo to avoid being seen.

I've been playing less than a month and can dock my type 7 at full speed perfectly sometimes, so I imagine some that have been playing for months know the exact vector to approach in warp to pop out facing the station then just boost straight in.

As for getting out, I noticed my t7 declamps faster than my asp, but if you know your ship you can head out at full speed.

that makes me feel better, cause i'm use to boting in some games, and it's frustrating to know some1 is getting an easy anaconda when i have to put months of trade grinding to get one... makes me feel better when i do grind.

Yeah,

Some people are very efficient at docking. It depends on the hardware you're using. If you're running a top end HOTAS with an OR, it'd be like riding a bike. Using mouse and keyboard on a 17" laptop, not as easy to do.

I run an Saitek X55 HOTAS with a 21" widescreen monitor. It's pretty easy to dock and exit once you're not too aggressive with your control inputs.

Also, your positioning in SC as you approach a station is important to how quickly you'll dock. Outposts are no real problem. You can just strafe around them to find your dock. However, starports only have 1 entry/exit which usually faces the planet they are orbiting. If you take a few extra seconds to make sure you are approaching and dropping from SC between the planet and the station, you'll normally find yourself within a 180 degree arc of the entry port. This saves you a good few seconds especially in larger, less manoeuvrable ships.

When you've been playing for 700 hours it's quite easy to get used to FAoff to swing your Type 9 around to dock really fast. You also have the added bonus of being able to push anything out of the way whilst you're doing it :)

been playing since december, and i do like to properly gun for the letterbox on occasion, its the best 'bottom tightening, teeth clenching, breath holding' fun you can have with 500ton of Palladium on board a type 9. i still havn't figured out, or in any rush.. to.. figure out the chat system yet, it isn't that im anti-social you understand, its just that i dont even like talking to npc's in game, so talking to real people would be akin to snorting madras and eyeballing a whisky. im not a bad person, you can ask anyo.. well, actually, maybe you cant.

It doesn't matter how good a player is - they will not want to get involved in text chat during an intensive process like docking. They probably haven't even seen your incoming message if they are busy...

It's all experience, I've been docking in Elite for 20ish years now, It's all muscle memory now haha.
That said a week ago I was half asleep while docking my asp and got myself down to 1% health by missing the mailbox slot by a good 100 meters.
I think it was half a million in repairs.
As for players not responding to comms, that's because comms in 1.1 and earlier were pretty bad, they're slightly better in 1.2 so should see more use.

I love Docking , It's a Rush, & barreling anything (Npc's.) up to a Cobra out the way in the Airlock is stunning, especially as you enter the station...Boooom, kill the thrust, pitch 180% to see the Debris clogging, I am sorry if that's a bit Psycho, but i don't get out much.

CMDR Badnews. out.

The comments in an Ars Technica article I read a few weeks back got me Googling.

There are indeed bots and a host of other exploits and cheats for the game. Almost everything is client side and there is no cheat protection.

However, if I'm trading, for example, I will make a point of learning the pattern of the planets in the destination star systems so that I can start aligning myself with my target the moment the jump is complete. I set the target in the left UI menu once I'm already cruising towards the station.

As for docking, well, there are docking computers. I can also match rotation perfectly with a decent joystick - I don't even notice I'm doing it any more.

Landing isn't that hard. Hell, I do it with a cheap joystick and good keymapping between it and my keyboard. I see my landing pad, I can have myself rotated and in my final approach in 5 seconds or less.

Some of us are *REALLY* good at docking.

Seriously.

Z...

Certainly docking isn't super hard or anything, but for me anyways to get that absolute 'perfect' landing, that one that feels/looks like it was straight out of a movie with perfect timing, perfect speed decrease, alignment, pitch and everything might only happen 1/100 times (not that the others are bad but just not perfect). When I do get that 1 in a 100 landing it does give me a bit of a buzz :)

They are probarbly trying to type back but considering the chat system only works on mondays, idk. Could be that. Because that happens to me so much that i dont bother to even try and respond anymore. I just ignore and continue on with my business.

Lol, im using above mentioned laptop and mouse, no issue with docking,i would even say i forgot that i'm doing it, just Muscle memory.

It was much more dificult in 80's but still very enjoyable.

It is like maunal transmission in car, chalenge for some, but in real ...
