Bounties will be exploitable

Unless something is done.

Im sure someone is doing it already but right now with the way bounties work all you have to do is fly around shooting/killing an being a general menace to society and you will rack up a crazy bounty in no time.

Now there are is no friends list or communication within the game but there are plenty points of reference. So two people can get a stupid high bounty, pick a point in space and keep re-rolling until they are put in the same area and take each others bounty.... and repeat until they have enough money to keep them padded for the rest of the pre-final phases.

The whole system needs a tweak. Last night I picked up a dropped cannister of grain. I got stopped in SC twice by feds, first got me a 400 bounty (warning) and second time an additonal 800 followed by them attacking.

Thats a 1200 bounty for tidying up some grain

Hahaha, that is actually hilarious. Attempt murder? 200 credits. Picking up space trash? 400 credits!

/Merf - Wonders what the fine would be for copyright violation...

Nevertheless, you make the proof of your public utility by cleaning the environment of the filth which derive in the space

:)

If I drive down the street with a open container of alcohol and get busted, then I continue to drive down the street with an open container of alcohol and get busted again, who's fault is it? ;) (Hint: throw away the container of alcohol.)

That's why we need additional aggressor fines to stop the bounty exploit. I already touched on this.

This. In the full criminality system, when someone collects the bounty on you, as you respawn the bounty will be taken from your wallet in addition to the excess fee for the ship.

Yep, happened to me a few times.

At best you were handling stolen goods, but that's semantics I guess.

As for you paying the bounty from your own wallet, I don't recall reading that in the ddf.

You can place bounties on others and immediately pay that, but if you've been a bad lad and get destroyed for it, I'm not sure the ddf makes it clear that you end up paying the bounty from your pocket. Hence making bounty credit trading impossible.

Would be good if it were true however. If you rack up a 10k bounty by being a wrong-un then you should have to pay that on death to the bounty collector.

You do know that you will have to pay your own bounty, don't you?

I wonder what happens when you can't afford to. DDA says that there's a limit to how much indebted you can get. When you hit that limit, are your bounties worth anything?

Silly Americans :D

I walk past 10+ coffee shops (read: pot cafes) on the way to the grocery store.

I wonder if piracy would be profitable considering this.

Maybe just have that character locked up for... uhm... up to 7 days. You log in an you find yourself looking at a nice cell and a very friendly, tall, muscular, cell mate. :D

Even with the proposal that bounty value gets removed from your wallet, bounties will easily be exploitable.

  1. Create new Commander
  2. Rack up a huge bounty
  3. Have your friend collect the bounty
  4. Delete the Commander
  5. Go to 1

What can be exploited, will be exploited. Endlessly.

What makes you think that endebted commanders will be able to be deleted easily, if at all? With the expected three commander slots per account is the limit then an account would become redundant fairly quickly.

Also, how can you guarantee that your friend will be the one to collect on the bounty - there will be bounty hunters (both PC and NPC) and the Police to contend with....

.

This. I cannot wait to see the explosions of tears that will occur when a certain segment of the player base realise that their own actions have effectively locked them out of the game, until they spend a long time grinding credits in a sidey with a loaned pulse laser. The QQing will be epic.

Although, of course, if you can transfer credits between commanders that will completely circumvent the system. As will any credit hacks/exploits.

I must admit I am not sure I am a fan of the scooping "law" as it stands.

Personally I would like to see the option of scooping and returning to a station and receiving a small finders fee, and this being legal - with the contents presumably being returned to the owner, the police or to the insurance company depending on what they are.

IF you choose to smuggle then you would disable the tracker on the can, and then have the ability to sell on the black market for a higher price, but with the downside of being open to scanning and getting penalties like at the moment.

look at it this way, you are attacked by pirates, and you kill them, and they drop a shipping container of slaves.

Now I have no intention of being a human trafficker, I know it is silly as it is only a game, however I tend to play these games how I would like to think I would if it was "real". With this in mind, whilst I would never traffic in humans, equally I would not want to leave a load of slaves floating in space to face a long and horrible death.

I like the notion of being able to run these to the authorities and let them deal with it and get a token few credits for my time..
