Bountry Hunting and dieing by feds

I'm pretty new to the game about a month in to the game, I'm flying a Python that i am using for bounty hunting at (RES). Everything goes well for several hours. I will build up 4 or 5mil worth of bounties then all of a sudden the Fed cops in the area start attaking me. I've lost 3 ships now because of this. I'm half tempted to go back to mining but i really like combat and i am getting pretty good at it. But why are the feds swarming me. I am not cargo scanning, I am only using my KWS to maximize the warrents and i am only attacking NPC's that show up as wanted in the local area. I'm about to quit the game over this. Any help would be appreciated.

If you accidentally shoot one of the security ships while engaging in combat with the 'Wanted' ships, you will get a bounty placed on you and you will become Wanted by the security ships and they will all start attacking and chasing you until you jump out into another system. As long as you didn't actually destroy one of the security ships and only damaged it, you only need to stay out of the bounty hunting system for about 7 - 8 minutes and the bounty on you will turn into a fine when you jump back into the system you were bounty hunting in. When you dock to collect your bounties, you can pay off the fine. If you don't pay the fine I believe it can turn into a dormant bounty which can turn into an active bounty and make you wanted again if you're scanned by security in that system.

If you did kill one of the security ships, then you will be wanted with a bounty on you for 7 days in the system. After seven days the bounty becomes dormant and you can return to the system to pay off the dormant bounty, provided you don't get scanned by security before docking or the bounty will become active again.

Long story short, you need trigger discipline when engaged in combat around security ships. Make sure you stop firing if they get in your line of fire.
