Bounty/Fine and a chieftain with 2D FSD

It's just poor game design.

200cr ankle-biters from scan missions and accidental weapon strikes should be fines. In fact, there is a "Accidental Discharge" fine, but the threshold is so low before it becomes a bounty, that any engineered weapon will immediately put you over it unless you're Allied with the faction.

It's a game, games are supposed to be fun. This just just punishing and stupid.

"Crime should have consequences", remember? That is what everybody was crying, a couple months ago. ;)

Do you commit suicide, when getting a fine for fast driving? ;-)

That's a strawman argument.

No one is saying in-game "Crimes" should not have consequences. They're saying that the new system, specifically tied to these low-level ankle-biters, is unnecessarily harsh, adds nothing to the game, and it's not fun.

Let's not forget that low level ankle biters was precisely the problem that people were bringing up before - 200 CR bounty and the whole instance tries to murder you. Now instead, 200 CR bounty gets you locked out of just about everything. I feel like whoever is in charge of making these high level decisions refuses to admit that "they were wrong", and instead wants to "fix" an unfixable system. The right solution is to not hand out bounties AT ALL for an infraction worth just 200 CR. The friendly fire system needs an overhaul full stop. It needs to take into account your current target, whether you dealt hull damage, how high a proportion of damage you dealt vs all other damage that led to the destruction of the ship (if applicable), and so on. Bounties simply shouldn't exist for friendly fire unless the ship actually gets destroyed or damage is dealt that requires a repair.

Agreed, there needs to be a clear and more slack line between a classic Fine for a minor offense and i.e. Murder or large Fines (i.e. caught Smuggling).

IMHO :
- Bounties/Fines upto lets say 2000 Cr (well below Murder line but includes all typical accidents) - dock at nearest location within jurisdiction and pay off via Anonymous Services shall be possible.
- anything beyond 2000 Cr runs as it does now

That would make much more sense, yes.
