Bounty hunter and a pirate?

Would this work?

I' m living on the Empire / Fed border, I' m getting a nice rep and starting rank for the Federation, no bounty etc doing missions and bounty hunting whilst being conciensous with who I'm killing (I.e. not greens).

I recently got some inspiration from an Elite novel and thought it would be fun to also be a pirate but in Empire systems only. So liked, green and free to do as I will in Fed systems, but feared and wanted in Empire systems. If I'm careful is that doable within the game mechanics?

Just wanted to check before I start being naughty ;)

Absolutely.

Also, which are the green ones on your scanner. I'm colourblind so they all look the same to me.

I do it too but I behave in Empire spaces and terrorize federation space. Just be careful if your bounty hunting in your "behave" systems with an active bounty on your head. There are bounty hunter NPC that will attempt to scan you with a KWS. They don't care about becoming wanted themselves so just a heads up. Usually I have chaff inboard in case I hear "scan detected".

Definitely you can play both sides of the fence. I'm allied with both Alliance and Feds. You just need to figure out which systems you can do what in. Hint: independent/anarchy systems are your go to for easy pie... and doesn't everyone love a little pie now and again?... just avoid any local factions which may be aligned with major factions.

Ok thanks for the replies.

That was going to be my next question actually, so NPCs can and do scan you with a KWS then. So I won't be surprised if a green starts shooting at me if I have a bounty elsewhere.

Would be pretty cool if there were shady missions given by one faction (Fed space) to specifically conduct piracy type jobs in an opposing factions space (Empire space).
