Bounty Hunting Beyond the Asp... Which Ship?

Hiya everyone,

So, been in the maxed out asp for quite some time now and decided to go for the Dropship as I had no incentive to keep plodding on.

Now I know it's not a great ship, but it has improved takedown and protection vs the anacondas.

My question is, what's the best medium sized bounty Hunting ship :) we all know the python is great but it can't land everywhere, and the FDL had poor jump/fuel issues (Unless someone knows something I've missed) .

It's worth noting that I don't have the rank for the clipper, but I'm working on it...

So again, what's the best bounty Hunting ship that can dock at outposts...

Cheers,

MB

So obvious answer, but why have you not mentioned the vulture? Do you not mean RES hunting?

It's probably got the TTKs in the game out of medium and small ships.

I must have totally mis read the python stats then! But what whilst I'm working towards it?

I've moved past the vultures price bracket really... Yeah, do a lot of res hunting... Bit of everything really but it's all bounties.

You won't find much that's better than the Vulture for pure bounty hunting. A Clipper or Dropship would be more versatile, but that's about all.

Price bracket is irrelevant, pick the ship that is best for the job.

FdL if you are good with fixed weapons and is fast
Python if not (and is more swing role)
Vulture has the same(ish) weapon damage as a fully angry Asp but has much, much better manoeverability and shields
Clipper if you are rich, Imperial and like shiny things.
Diamondback............watch this space?

Vulture for dedicated bounty hunting will earn more credits per hour, and is a lot more fun. Python if you want a multirole ship. Price wise 20 mil for a fully kitted Vulture and 150 mil for a fully kitted Python. Both are excellent for bounty hunting but for me, Vulture has the edge.

You won't get better than the Vulture for BH at RES. It is a superb craft. I have the ASP and the Vulture and the Vulture is by far superior than the ASP for BH.

Don't be fooled by price - more credits doesn't equal better! I would say the Cobra is in second place for BH ;)

In CZs the ships I hate the most in my war Python are Vipers and Cobras. Both are tough, and can speed away from danger quite easily. In a BH situation, both would be great as you can zoom in and kick some botty while being immune from retaliation from slower ships.

Yeah, they're a real pain - generally not worth the time for the reward they provide.

It's a long-winded approach, though - lots of passing and boosting out. This is where the Clipper is the best of both worlds - not as durable as the Vulture, but able to hang in close for awhile, and when you need to bug out (or to chase down someone else who's doing so), practically nothing can outrun you.

The Vulture's solution to the problem is equally valid, though - at least for RES hunting. Basically, it just sits there taking what's being dished out, and occasionally you may see the outer shield ring tinge red and think "hmm, maybe I'll need to consider popping a shield cell in a few minutes".

Vulture is ridiculous cheap. Cheap rebuy for kissing asteroids. Python out guns and my fav. Rebuy is 8 times that of my vulture that just gathers dust now. Vultureperfect sstepping stone to python.

The FDL is fine - and you don't have to go fixed. I've done both and find my kill time is faster with 4 gimbaled pulse lasers and the Class 4 gimballed canon. Shields last forever unless you get one of those wings of 8 Vultures in an SSS and they all hit together - very rare - and you still have plenty of time to jump out. You can also mix with a combination of fixed and gimballed if you prefer.

Fast and maneuverable, great shield strength, and nice fire power against large or small. Plus almost nothing mass locks it, at least nothing you can't run away from.

the FDL had poor jump/fuel issues (Unless someone knows something I've missed)

Depends what you want to do with it, really. If you're just moving around in occupied space and don't mind a lot of fuel scooping it isn't so bad.

The FdL really shines at taking down large ships, is more-or-less proof against mass lock and has the speed and shields to keep you safe from just about anything, including other CMDRs.
That's why I prefer it over the Python and Vulture, which are much more vulnerable ships.

It depends upon how you define bounty hunting, if you mean slaughtering AI's at a RES then anything from a viper upwards is fine, but a larger ship will have higher maintenance costs eating away at your profits.

If you mean bounty hunting in its proper sence of taking on a target and hunting them down across the Galaxy then a Cobra would be my choice, it has enough untility mounts fit all the required scanning equipment equipment and you can get a good weapons loadout and good jump range. NB This type of bounty hunting is not really supported by the current game mechanics yet anyway.

The Vulture is a dedicated heavy fighter. It's perfect and within the same price range as the Asp. Look no further. I'd only get a Python or FDL when you have over 100M spare.
