Ships Bounty Hunting Cobra

I was thinking of a specialised version of the Cobra specifically for BH or light CZ...

I had to trade off Beam lasers with Pulse in order to have enough power distribution for a double SCB + Shield Booster, but I think I just added enough survivability for a CZ.

The alternative could be using beam lasers and remove one SCB:

Opinions?

Just one note, you only want one SCB powered at any given time, so you actually have enough power for class 4's - a 4B will restore 90% of your shield on that build.

I've always favored the Viper for CZ's as it's small size improves survive ability I've used this build on several occasions as both weapon groups are seldom firing together the power issues aren't that bad, I normally fit it with the smallest FSD available to save mass, after all you just fly between the CZ and the nearest station most of the time ;)

Here's a version with a similar fit to the Cobra it has better shields and more SCB's but less range and armor.

Thanks, but I already own the Cobra and I don't plan to buy a Viper (I would buy a Vulture if I was to change ship).

Thanks anyway for the contribution :)

I am testing out a build similar to the one you originally posted but with cannons in the small slots rather than multi cannons (gimballed of course).

I am am hoping that the superior punching power of the cannons will make up for the reduced ammunition carrying capacity, and will also give a much greater hitting power for when I want to wail on pythons and anacondas.

You mean something like that:

With the precaution to keep the second SCB off until the first is depleted, did I understand you well?

With this build I could even keep the 2D/G Beam Lasers instead of Pulses...

Yea, that's pretty much what I meant. You only want one SCB powered at any given time, anyway, because if you have multiple ones online and hit the SCB shortcut it'll activate all the currently powered ones - not really desired. Same with chaff / heatsink launchers, all active ones deploy once you hit that shortcut, so I tend to only keep one active if using them.

if you plan to go bounty hunting - isn't there a kws missing? and a fs interdictor?

I should have specified, with this ship I'll mainly do BH at Navs or RES.

BTW, The KWS is present on my build, I lack only the FSD interdictor

I don't think that is true for chaff and heat sinks though - I tend to run double chaff/heat sinks on my stealth Scout as it allows you to chain launch them but only one at a time.

It is true for the SCB as I found out by accident when I left both powered while I was taking on a couple of Elite Anacondas....

I flew a double Shield Booster Cobra for a while. It's ok, but I found one booster and a chaff was actually more useful. I too run my cobra with two SCB arrays, and it's solid, but I feel like you need the chaff to buy time for the SCB to cook off sometimes, as the cobra's shields aren't exactly strong even with two boosters.

I would go with this:

I found that putting Med-slot lasers and small-slot Multicannons meant i'd shred shields very quickly but suffer on hull and Powerplant damage. Swapping them around meant that you can still take down shields relatively quickly but ALSO hit noticably harder VS the hull and power systems.

I went after your advice, and I found it extremely good. Lots of damage and medium hardpoints are better placed for multicannons.

Glad i could be of help :) If you want to go REALLY big game hunting (as i believe the MC suffers VS enemy ships larger than the Federal drop ship i.e. Pythons/Anacondas) you could replace the MC's with Cannons... however, you'll struggle to utilize these effectively VS eagle/Cobra/Vipers and even Asps' due to their smaller hulls and slimmer cross sections.... i personally found that it wasn't worth going up the cannons until you were flying a Vulture (which i've found loads of fun and managed to outfit one reasonably well for just 10M)

Thats my vulture and so far i've found that not only can i kill Vipers/Cobras, etc just as fast as i could with my DBS and Cobra... but I can now far more easily take on Pythons and kill off Anacondas as well. The A grade Power Distributor is VITAL for a Vulture though... it allows you to fire that pulse laser constantly without break with only 2-3 pips in weapons allowing more power to engines/shields.... and the cannon can make short work of power plants on even larger vessels if you get the angle just right (definitely something to upgrade to if you want to hunt enemies down)
