Newcomer / Intro Bounty Hunting: Found My Target in Supercruise

Sorry about the noob question, but please point to the right video/article/thread/direction please...

So I'm on a mission where I'm supposed to find this guy I need to kill. No specific station, just in "Space" in a system.

And as I'm flying around during supercruise between... systems (?), I spot my target in Contact, select/targeted him, and.... he's just a white bracket of swirling lights.

What do I do?

I don't think I have anything to pull him out of supercruise (happened to me a few times, thanks, Pirates!)(how's my autocannon feels, hmm?), so I tried to follow him and yet... he just kept going.. .and going... and my mission timer is counting down.... like...



....wha....?

Can anyone tell me what to do?

PS: is there a "loot" I can/should pick up after blasting random pirates?

Yes. You'll need a thing called Frame shift drive interdictor.
You put it into a firegroup like a weapon, target the enemy in Supercruise and fire. You will then experience the interdiction from the "more fun" side of things.

The interdictor is an internal compartment, by the way. Like shields, cargo racks, etc. if you have trouble locating it in Outfitting.
The higher the class and rating, the longer the distance between you and the target can be to initiate the interdiction.
Arguably higher rating interdictor also makes the interdiction easier to win, but there are some disputes about how exactly that works.

If you are patient, you can also wait for your target to drop out of supercruise. It may take a while though. And it can be quite tricky to target the wake signal left by your mission target so that you drop out in the same area.

You also need to be behind your target to interdict them

Sounds like he already dropped out of SC. Did you see this:



If so, just target and fly towards it the same way as approaching a station. When you get the safe drop signal, drop from SC and hey presto your target will be in normal space near you.
If you don't have an Interdictor, just follow your target until he drops and leaves this Low Wake

You don't need a FSD. Follow him until he drops out of super-cruise and leaves behind two chevrons. Approach those chevrons with your throttle in the blue zone (75%). When you get close, the "Safe to Disengage" comes up on your display, so you drop out and there he is waiting to be killed.

Yea i ended up tagging along with him for a while and fry him when he's out. too bad the mission timer ran out when he's 5% ! LOL
