Bounty Hunting in my new Anaconda is the most fun I have had in this game...

Whilst discussing "realistic' and "practical" does seem a little farcical in a 31st Century game that ONLY has WVR Weapons and typical engagement ranges of 500M - 1Km (Yes!!! In Space!!!)
Wouldn't Fixed weapons make even MORE sense in space (off axis movement and shots FAR more viable than in atmospheric flight)

No, I don't think fixed weapons have any advantages in space. And the energy needed to turn a turret is much less than that needed to turn a whole spaceship.

This needn't be an argument. I know that many people like the fighter-ace-in-space thing and I hope they continue to enjoy it. It just happens that I don't. However, I find I can improve my enjoyment of ED by making it conform a little more to what I regard as realism. When I equip a ship with what I think are more likely ways to fight a battle in space, the game becomes more interesting to me. So that's what I do. Blaze your own trail.

I take your point about ED being unrealistic anyway (Gatling guns in space! It's more steampunk really), but in order to play I have to suspend disbelief. A bit of RP, choice of game activities and attention to "space-ish" ship build does this for me.

Federal Pansies and your Vettes!

(I am working towards a Cutter lol)

As someone who has owned all three for two years, ignore the people saying the Vette will blow you away compared to the Anaconda. Yes, the Corvette maneuvers better and drifts less. Yes, it has better internals (which helps with survivability). Yes, the two huge hardpoints can lead to a lot of fun situations (and the firing arc, if gimballed, is excellent). And finally, yes, the Corvette looks really cool inside and out.

All that said, it is a lateral upgrade. The Anaconda has higher DPS. The Anaconda has a better hardpoint loadout (1 Huge + 3 Large is better than 2 Huge + 1 Large (placed badly)). You can get similar shield strengths on both - my Anaconda currently has 2420 MJ 7C Bi-weaves, while my Corvette has 2230 MJ 7C Bi-weaves. The Anaconda's jump range is also much better. Finally, the hardpoint placement is optimal for using AX weaponry against Thargoids (vs Corvette loadout).

In short, they're both good/fun ships that make you feel like a combat god (especially when using SLFs). The Corvette really needs a boost to stand out as the superior warship it should be.

As for the Cutter, she is a beautiful ship that will allow you to carry a huge amount of cargo in almost complete safety (good shields, good weapons, and can outrun all the other big ships). On the downside, she handles like a brick with a rocket attached to her butt. Some pilots have turned her into a monstrous combat ship to be feared. I still haven't done that, because her pitch rate just kills it for me.

Anyway, enjoy your Anaconda! If you feel like getting a Corvette, enjoy that too (just don't expect it to be a god-like upgrade). And enjoy the Cutter whenever you get her... just fly carefully, that drift is very dangerous when you first fly her (especially with anything less than A class thrusters).

What's this guy smoking? Vette is way better in combat then conda

I don't know, what are you smoking?

I've used the Corvette as a combat ships since 2.0! I've used my Anaconda (which was a trade ship I used to earn the Cutter and Corvette) for the same type of multi-mission/combat as the Corvette since January, 2017. They are EXTREMELY similar in combat ability. Honestly, I find the Anaconda's hard point loadout to be better. At the same time, I do enjoy the the two huge points on the Corvette.

There have been many, many threads arguing about these two ships and how the Corvette needs a buff for at least 1.5 years now. I'll leave it to Ziljan, and other expert pilots, to argue about this, since they're better with the statistical proofs than I am.

All I can say is that I have flown both, I continue to fly both, and the Corvette's continued use by me is only because I like it's cool look and feel. Meanwhile the Anaconda has a much better jump range and the only ship in the game with a damage model (which is so cool when your ship gets torn up).

I used to think the Corvette was clearly superior to the Anaconda too. Then I engineered my Anaconda up to match and found out that wasn't the case.

I guess in the end its personal.. i know that i prefer the vette allot more than conda.
Thats why i got 3 corvettes and only 1 conda.

And that is perfectly acceptable. I too think that the Corvette looks cooler inside and out. I particularly enjoy the sliding engine vents on the Corvette.

What's infuriating for me is that in past discussions about these two ships, and a call for a combat buff (even as mild as increasing the Corvette's 2 smalls to 2 medium hard points) it's the Corvette pilots who fight against any and all buffs, claiming she is already so superior to the Anaconda. No, no she isn't. Not enough to justify the gimp jump range (mine is up to nearly 20 ly now, vs. my Anaconda's 31 ly).

Also, I have 3 Anacondas (really only need 2) and 1 Corvette. Also 1 Cutter (may go to 2) and 1 T10.

IRT OP: Yeah, that feeling of being a badass is good fun. Don't forget the smaller ships though. I love fighting in my Corvette but I find the FAS or Chieftain to be just as fun.

Yep, still enjoy flying my Python, Imperial Clipper, AspX, DBX, Cobra MK III, CHIEFTAIN!, Orca, etc.

Sometime it is not only more fun to go back to smaller ships, it's also wiser (faster, cheaper, and safer) depending on what you're doing. :D

do you own a corvette? the whole feel is differant than the conda.

also, try taking down a corvettes shield when it got dual size 7 SCB and a size 6. its gonna be a long fight if you dont bring magic rails, mines or torps.

That's just it. Are we talking PVE or PVP? For PVE, there is no real difference. For PVP... well, I'll leave that up to the actual PvPers to fight about. But if I were coming after a Corvette in a planned PVP fight, I would build an all Torp T-10 like 777driver has done and either destroy your Corvette in under 30 seconds or high-wake out (for a reload). :)

Honestly, most of the PVP stuff I see are FDLs, Chieftains, FAS, and Cutters.

To be 100% honest The only thing that swayed me away from the Vette is the Cutters ability to carry a BUTTLOAD of crap and its ability to also serve as a decent combat ship while still being able to jump a respectable distance as well.

You're right. I recently fully engineered my Corvette thinking that I'd finally like it if it was fully grade 5 engineered. Even then, I still didn't like it.

I Now have a fully engineered battle version of each of the big 3 (or 4 if you consider my Type-10 gunship). Guess which one I like the best. The Anaconda followed by the Cutter.

I like to fight in smaller ships more these days, but It's nice to get lazy in the battle wagons too some times.

The god ship for kill pves is the G5 Corvette.
Use 2 huge gimbaled beams, 1 longrange (lower energie secondary), 1 efficient, (oc secondary)
2 medium tureted efficient beams (lower energie secondary)
1 overcharged MC (oc secondary)
2 enforcer OC oc
Wapon focused energie, high charge secondary
Bi-Wave
7a genarator oc G4 thermic secondary for less heat
2 x 7 SCB

Park your Conda in the hanger ;)
Go to a CZ and kill 90 ships in 60 min
