Bounty hunting is silly, it needs to change

Bounty hunting in this game makes little sense. As a bounty hunter there is little challenge and lots of profit. All I ever have to do is camp at a Resource extraction site and collect profits. Why do pirates constantly attack RES's anyway, I've never seen on win a battle, they have no reason to be there. In my opinion bounty hunting should be completely different. There should be an aspect of hunting to it. I feel like bounties should be given out like in missions for a specific criminal only. It is possible to do this, missions like this do exist, but they're completely not worth my time when hunting a single target worth 100,000 through a mission might take 30-40 minutes, whereas in that time I can just go to an RES and make 500,000 collecting random bounties. I guess what I'm saying is they should simply remove pirates constantly spawning at RES's, and make bounty hunting more about tracking down a single target and killing them. Maybe pirates can still spawn at RES's too, but it should be more infrequent and much tougher, they should arrive in numbers at least able to deal with the system security force, otherwise what are they even doing there. There is no logical reason for a single novice sidewinder pirate to attack an RES, it's silly.

Yes, some further development with respect to game content would be welcome. RES slaughter grind is a nice alpha/beta tech demo, it would be so nice to see it built on.

I agree, it's a very rough system that feels incredibly artificial. It serves a purpose, but that's all at the moment.

They're aware of it and working on it, and we should see some changes really soon, so all that can be done is being done. Sit back and enjoy the evolution =)

I agree. Current mechanics for bounty hunting is awkward and makes very little sense. It works in exactly the same way as old-fashioned farming in any generic MMORPG: endless NPC spawns being thrown at you over and over again is a proof of poorly thought out and plain lazy game design.

I find it a bit weird that I can fly to a RES, take on multiple Anacondas, kill them all (and dozens of other craft) without taking even 1% hull damage. Having several thousand kills to my name isn't very "realistic".

I'd love to see more nuanced combat. Tougher targets, fewer kills, but higher rewards per-kill. How about - if I make a Wanted craft flee, I get a small reward. Destroy them, a much bigger reward. If I do enough damage to certain sub-systems, then maybe they'll surrender and I get a huge reward if I can escort them back to the station to face justice - but they might try to flee again. Hell, maybe I even get to keep their ship if we make it all the way back? ;)

Seriously people? You're whining about this the day before the next update becomes playable? Why not wait until the patch appears and opinions form before whining about content slated to change?

and you are really expecting some major changes to how bounty hunting works?

I made a post about this a few days back. Yes the RES bounties are hilariously simple and are basically just credits pinatas. Compare this to the slightly harder conflict zone NPCs, payouts are worth 3-4 times more in RES (anacondas in RES average 100K+ and 36K in conflict zones). I agree that the bounty systems would be much more interesting if we had more mission based targets with a whole range of payouts (10K for smaller/less experienced targets, 20-50k for medium difficulty targets...).

Patch goes to beta tomorrow, not for general release for at least another week.

But if you nerf bounty hunting then traders need a nerf due to the fact they make stupid money, they would need to hire escorts which should take up large amounts of there funds right ?

RES do feel strange at times it's a bit like a never ending shoot 'em up where the targets just keep on coming. Hopefully 1.3 will add a little more skill to the bounty hunting profession. I'd like to actually have to search for my prey rather than know that there will always be something there. Still RES are fun so I wouldn't remove them.

Get rid of Any pirates at RES zones, other than othes in Anharcy RES sites,Bounty hunting only through mission boards,Pirates are basicaly cowards would only show up if they feel powerfull enhough to bully you into getting what they want, they would only take on system vessels if greatly overpowering them.So realy pirates would only appear in defended RES sites in large numbers. So we would see pirates in large numbers or not at all,So Defended RES sites would mostly a poor place to gather bounties,The other extreem would be to have RES sites constant fully of large number of pirates outnumbering system vessels on patrol,This a equally bad idea if a RES site was so dangerous as to be a problem for local patrol vessels no miners would there as it would be to dangerous,no miners no pirates.

one idea i had Most of the time RES sites are peacefull But on occasion Large numbers of Pirates would appear,In this case the local aouthorities would transmit an alert as warning/Request for assistance to local vessels.

Especially with the upcoming changes to revive the dead mining, I kinda agree when it comes to RES sites.

To me, RES have degenerated into "BES". Bounty Extraction Sites, which really seems to be their only remaining purpose.
Plus, going mining there in a dedicated Mining Rig (which technically is what a RES should be for) would be near-impossible.
A dedicated Miner needs solitude and simply can't have Pirates spawn all over the place - all the time.

Notably - these Pirate spawns even extend far into the 1000LY bubble around civilization.
While the permanent SuperCruise spawns (Explorer-killer Psycho NPCs) have been removed - they still spawn together with Miner NPCs in Asteroid Belts/Rings even hundreds of LY out - which makes absolutely no sense at all.
(you could hug SuperCruise in such a remote System for hours without ever seeing any traffic - but dare you jump into a Resource Belt Cluster and *bam* 5sec later you suddenly get NPCs spawn as if you were right inside civilization)

Amazingly, you can mine to your hearts content in a Res zone and the NPCs are almost no hindrance at all. I set up an Asp with a pair of mining lasers and set out to see how bad it'd be, fully expecting to be constantly beset by NPC pirates and proceeded to mine until I was so bored of it I couldn't stand it anymore(about an hour, I'd guess) and hadn't even had to pull off, despite being scanned several times(the security peeled them off me instantly in those cases).

Of course, mining sucking is another issue entirely. Since I wasn't in this amazing legendary ring of pristine metallic solid platinum that I keep hearing a person should target(it was pristine metallic, but that hardly meant all high credit asteroids), I made more money off the three bounties I tagged in the five minutes on my way out of mass lock than I did the hour of picking up 40% chunks of misc stuff ranging from gold to cobalt.
