Bounty Hunting Mini-Bosses

Hey everyone,

I was discussing ideas about the game with a friend last night and we had a thought about ways to make the game feel more engaging. We were talking about how even bounty hunting in a RES gets old after a while and doesn't feel like it leads to anything other than a smallish payout once you run out of ammo or you need to repair.

Introducing Pirate Mini-Bosses

Once you start killing pirates in a RES, a progress bar will start filling up (this bar could be seperated by faction or simply be a universal one for that RES and instance). Once the bar fills up, it triggers a wave (or multiple waves) of NPCs who would jump in and specifically target you and your wing. These waves can be harder than usual and composed of larger ships with larger payouts. You could even have special NPCs that only spawn this way and missions asking you to "flush out" these pirates. You could even have missions like "Retrieve X cargo from X pirate" that requires you to jump into a RES site, fight to trigger the spawn, and not kill the NPC but hatch breaker their cargo hold for the unique cargo.

Just an idea - what do you think?

While I like the creativity of the idea, I really don't think it's thematically compatible with the game; kind of feels like it belongs in a Blizzard game.

If you're getting tired of bounty hunting (as most people do), try assassinations. Seems they might be what you're after (high paying ones anyway). You could also try patrolling shipping lanes for Weapons Fire USS, I've dropped into a few threat level 4 ones that had a wing of wanted Anacondas. There's also conflict zones, which are much more engaging than bounty hunting, and pay a hell of lot better too (at least until 2.4).
