Bounty Hunting newbie

Hi,

I thought I'd try my hand at bounty hunting, its something I've never touched on yet. So I equipped my trusty old Cobra MkIII with some weapons and a FSD wake scanner.

I found one tempting target with a bounty of just over 10,000cr. nice! So I engaged and we had a nice battle, sadly the guy is a chicken and engaged his hyperdrive before I could kill him or disable it, so I used my scanner and found the system he jumped to.

I jumped there and... nothing?

did I do something wrong or do I have to hunt about the entire system for him or what?

Basicly u did the right thing apart , you need to prepare your final blow strategy abit different.
When the hull reaches 40-30%, be prepared to bring the hull down quick as the target might start to run.

Also a alternative is to target their FSD or Power plant. Upon destructing those the ship will be destroyed too and the target might have no time to run.

About chasing targets through different systems, its likely that he vanished into hte void or hides in normal space ( likely that he ends up in a Nav Beacon first until he reenters supercruise)

I also have a theory that the "quality" of your wake scanner affects if you jump next to the target or not. But its just a hunch (tried a lof of different wake scanners).

And a tip for the OP is to hunt in independent system or anarchy (i have some good bounties in the resource-extraction systems). If you hunt in fed-space or imperial-space there is a "bug" (somewhat confirmed by FD) that youre rep gets negative if you kill wanted ships with fed-affiliation. I myself are at the moment "unliked", have been graded "hostile" before by doing some serious bounty-huntin.

I did this a couple of nights ago, and though I only got the FSD down to about 70%, when the guy tried to jump, his ship exploded. Have you seen this behaviour before? I was awarded the bounty, so not complaining!

Take out their thrusters. Ever notice you can't jump unless you throttle up? Yeah :)

Not sure. Isn't it base on max output. If you have no pips in engines it still jumps because you are at max available power so if your thrusters are damaged but you still have the turned all the way to 11 it should still jump.

OH.

That explains why the Federation is hostile to me. I opened a ticket but I now see its redundant.

Interestingly if you linger around fed ships (not doing anything) with a hostile rep they will spontaneously declare "crime detected" and attempt to murder you.
