Bounty hunting NOW

Hi everyone,

The server update will go live this morning at 11 am. It has the following changes and a known issue.

- Prevent being fined by the same authority more than once for carrying illegal goods near a station
- Cap all bounties to 1 million credits per minor faction
- Set all current bounties above 1 million credits to 1 million credits

Known issue:

When destroying another Commander's ship, the initial notification of any bounty awarded will incorrectly state the value if the bounty has been limited to 1 million credits. The correct value will be shown in the Transactions cockpit interface and when redeeming the bounty.

Does this affect the RES?

What is the point of the bounty cap exactly?
Does FD hate us Bounty Hunters that much that we're not even allowed to earn a decent wage any more?

Seriously, why do I bother trying to play this game, sometimes...

If I've taken the HUGE amount of time, effort and skill to find and take down some pirate with say a 50 million bounty on his head, I expect that to pay off.
Even if it only takes 30 minutes to find and kill the guy, I can make more than that just doing a RES.

It's to prevent players boosting bounties artificially, players will still be able to amass multi-million credit bounties "legitimately"

People exploited the system by transporting lots of illegal goods getting astronomical fines for this and then waiting until the fines turned into bounties. Thus making it possible for a friend (or someone ready to pay real world money for it) to take them out claiming millions upon millions of credits "for free".

Ah, I see.
That's understandable - though this does then capitulate the whole problem with bounties at the moment.
It's so hard to find a bountified player to hunt as it is.

The only sure way to claim a pilot with a bounty on their head is to freeze them in carbonite. And since everybody knows that trick, you'd have to travel from one side of this galaxy to the other and see a lot of strange things before you'd find another pilot who will fall for the old "what's in this tube made of carbonite nozzles, why don't I take a peek and see?" gambit.

You can still rack up bounties in lots of jurisdictions - it's only minor faction bounties that are limited to 1 million, so you'll still be able to find genuine multi-million bounties.

Devs are between a rock and a hard place on this - I think they've found one of the only solutions to the friend bounty exploit.

Aye.

And also this:

64 players had more than 1m bounty this morning. Not a huge volume.

Sorry to go off topic here but...

You can make 50 million credits in 30 minutes in a RES?
Seriously?

There's an easy solution. Just make them pay the entirety of the bounty.

Can't pay the bounty off? Is it over 1 billion? Oh, I'm very sorry about your loss. Pay up or it's the basic Sidewinder for you.

That's what needs to happen. None of this coddling and babying of...Pirates of all people. If I was a pirate I'd almost be offended.

Not sure you understood what he said.

It was possible to rack up a rather large bounty in a short time just to let yourself get killed or get another copy of the game and kill yourself to end up with a windfall.
