Bounty hunting players - Any way to find them?

Is there a decent way to search for players with bounties listed at a station? I'm assuming it's a rather useless top 5 list, as you don't know if they're online, or where they're even at. But, I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something.

There isn't a good way really. Know people in lots of different areas, and ask them to tell you if they see somebody. I suggest a rair hauling route with lots of sectors and your loadout tuned for bounty hunting rather than hauling. You'll make money hauling, and you visit pirate hot spots.

I thought about starting up an out-of-game toold where people could report bounties/locations/ships for bounty hunters to chase (ie. trader sees 500k bounty on a player, makes it to dock, posts that on the board). As a pirate it would be rather counterproductive, but also fun.

The next thing you need to know is how to hunt for a bounty. It is very easy to escape in this game, so you often will only have one chance. The other thing to remember is that pirates have quite a strong interest in their local surroundings ('cos piracy), so if you hop in in a Python, for example, you may find your target jumps out before you can even interdict him, so a Cobra/Viper/Asp may be a better option. Maybe bring friends. Other ways apart from interdicting exist, of course, to take players down, and these IMO are much more likely to work out well for you.

The fact that a large number of pirates are cowardly and pay off their bounties doesn't help. I think bounty hunting players is pretty much the hardest occupation in the game, so good luck.

The list last time I checked was from 22 Dec. Totally useless. Then you have to account for are they in same instance and are they online?

This video gives a very good intro into hunting top player bounties, but it of course leaves you on a cliffhanger:

I'd like there to be a system where at stations you could enter the name of a commander, and IF THEY ARE WANTED, it could tell you "last seen in X system". It would not tell you exactly where they are now but maybe tell you where they were seen 24 hours ago. So somebody who was wanted badly enough would have to keep moving to stay ahead of pursuers... it wouldn't tell you exactly where that person is NOW but it would give you a lead where to try looking... and if they ever add player created bounties those players should be added to that search list even if they aren't currently in a "wanted" status.

Presumably the Empire and Federation would keep a record of all ships entering and leaving their space stations, the alliance would be a little less bothered about paperwork and independents pretty slapdash about it.

For a fee, you should be able to search the records of whichever allegiance you are docked in to see when and where a particular commander last docked within that hegemony. (Docked at an Empire system, you can search the Empire's records etc.) The same system could also have "The Empire's most wanted" and their last known location.

Quite how much coding something like that would need is another matter of course...

This. You can be the best tracker in the universe or just plain luck that you see a Top 5 name but it doesn't matter if the game doesn't put you in the same instance as the Wanted.
