Bounty hunting question

After interdicting a wanted Asp, I attacked, and got a 600 credit fine? Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Or, is this a bug? Anyway the cops showed up, attacked him, stole my kill (he was 6% hull), then turned on me...

did you scan the Asp again when you dropped out of SC prior to shooting it? if not that will be the reason you got a fine.

if you did rescan and wait for the wanted tag to appear ticket it as a bug.

They might be wanted but not in that system. If they have 0 bounty with whomever controls that system, it is a crime to fire on them.

I just let them fire the first shot then I know I'm in the clear. I believe a kill warrant scanner will help you find that information out.

Thanks to the two posters... Will them let the fire the first shot in future! And, no, I didn't scan them again after dropping out of super-cruise, I'd been interdicting wanted NPCs all day and attacking them... First time this happened, but your explanations certainly make sense! On a plus note, the Freagle is a surprisingly excellent dogfighter, have been chewing up Vipers, Asps etc. in it!
