bounty hunting trials...

Went for my first premeditated bounty hunting expedition just now - I've not done any since my accidental scooping of some fish a month ago where I was scanned as I entered a station and then ruthlessly murdered to death - so I've been building up to attempting it again.. I think scared is actually the word...

headed off to the nav beacon as I'd heard on the grape it was good for such things, K-warrant scanned some innocents before finally finding a wanted hauler NPC.
As he died he dropped some battle weapons as a thank you gift for putting him out of his misery (why else would he have been there in a hauler..?), scooped those beauties up and then headed back to base camp with the docking sweats...

feeling a little peaky I stopped at a USS on the way (probably actually trying to delay the inevitable docking fiasco..) waited a little to see who was there and two security vipers turned up! instantly started scanning me so the could justify police brutality, I boosted, quick 4 pips to engines, hit the SC and

<frameshift cancelled: hardpoints/scoop deployed> message AAAGGG!

un-deploy my weapons, and try again ..

<frameshift cancelled: hardpoints/scoop deployed> AAARRRRGGG !!

un-deply my cargo scoop whilst turning randomly trying to stay unscanned and therefore unwanted, eventually saw the countdown and went into SC.

Calmed down a little after checking my status was still clean... phew... note to self, don't stop off at USS when you have stolen weapons in your boot.

finally dropped out of SC 20k from the station and sat there composing myself... hit silent running, boosted, flight ass off, engines off and headed off towards my doom... heated up rather quickly (felt like 4 seconds!) so stopped, put everything back on and decided to line up with the letter box at 9 km out instead.

right then, new plan needed. If I can just get through that tiny little slit of a gap at 400km/s then I'll be fine....

boosted, flight ass off again, left silent running as I didn't trust myself with that again yet (a previous hauler incident where I was bumped back to the sidewinder left some scars...) headed towards the bay at surprising speed... remembered I hadn't requested docking yet, did that, fortunately got a quick response, flicked flight ass back on so I could adjust my heading a little and cruised through the gap with relative ease..

the only thing left now was slowing down... in a cobra.. which wasn't going well...

fortunately I hadn't had chance to alter my course whilst in the docking bay and rammed straight into the middle sticky outy metal thingy on the other side at 200 (ish). Thought I was toast as my shields still hadn't recovered from my earlier attempt at silent running and waited for my doom...

surprisingly it didn't come...

neither did I have any damage!

not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I quickly docked

the 5 battle weapons sold for 28k and netted a 500cr bonus for the kill - job done. nice. phew.

I think I may have a lie down for a bit...

seriously, what other game have you played that can give you an experience like that in 15 mins? man I love this game.

sorry but I just had to tell someone.

The cobra is surprisingly tough. I was hauling a full load of 5 finger discount stuff into chongo while running cold, I started getting scanned at the last possible second so I boosted straight through the slot. Ended up bouncing off the back end of the station at well over 200km/h. I couldn't believe I survived the way I hit, but I only took minimal damage.

Great story, you are far braver than me, I've never attempted docking at a policed station with stolen goods! When I bounty hunt I tend to do just that, don't bother with the scooping, takes so long and then there's the fact that there's often a wing of feds at nav beacons.

You know, you don't have to scoop up the dropped cargo. I don't think they give out tickets for littering. They've been raising the bounties a bit on wanted npc's. The time spent on scooping cargo could net you another bounty or two, and keeping your record clean goes a long way in avoiding capital punishment.

Nice job of not turning your Cobra into a kebab. It's nice to see others getting a rush out of the game too.

You gotta be kidding...

100K profit an hour in cargo is what bounty hunting is about - the bounties themselves just cover consumables, damage and any fines you happen to collect yourself.

Toad.

Money is easy. I'm in it for the fight. If I wanted to make money, I would buy a Lakon and deliver groceries. As far as paying for damage, well, I don't get damaged and don't incur any fines. I probably make about 20k an hour in bounties without having to spend my time playing trash collector. No idea what I'm even going to spend that money on. I have the only ship I can own. I have all the weapons I need. My insurance is covered a thousand fold and fuel is cheap.
