Newcomer / Intro Bounty On You

When I got a bounty put on me for shooting the wrong unwanted person I went to the local station to pay the fine and it wanted me to hand myself in and I ended up at a detention center in my low jump range corvette 100LY away.

I have been wanted before but didnt end up 100LY away I just had to pay the fine.

So why did this happen this time? I am trying to understand the mechanics involved.

Also when I tried to pay the fine last night I got shot at at two different stations - why? I went to the same station today and it let me dock and hand myself in with no issues except anonymous access.

Fines you can pay - bounties you should go to an Interstellar Factor unless you want to get sent to the naughty step detention centre.
Ahhhh it makes sense now! I still dont know why I was attacked by police forces twice at different stations and then allowed to dock today at one of them. I installed a docking computer to help with docking and this may have helped?. A glass or two of red wine may have distorted things somewhat last night.

If you're wanted by the station's controlling faction (but not Hostile REP), they'll let you dock. However, if the station security completes a scan of your ship as you're docking, they'll notice you're Wanted by them and start attacking you - while also revoking your docking permission.

Fines and bountites need to be dealt with differently.

I was gonna post that, but I wasn't 100% on how it worked.

Never hand yourself in and never go to the station when you're wanted unless you're confident in your ability to get in using stealth tactics. If you're bounty hunting, go to a nearby system and hunt there instead while you wait for the notoriety to time out then go to an Interstellar Factor in any low security system to get rid of the bounty.

A good place for bounty hunting is LTT 15574. If you mess up there, you can nip across to Aphra, Freng or Kremainn, which all are pretty good, and they're all under the control of Zachary Hudson, so if you sign up with him and do the level 2 powerplay, you get a big bonus on your bounties. Level 5 powerplay gets you double bouty payouts. That's how I got my Billion cr payout before they buffed the bounty payouts:

If you get scanned and have a bounty on you the security types will start shooting, so if you want to dock somewhere when wanted sneak in stealthily or get in faster than they can scan you which is often easier.
If you get permission to dock when lined up with the slot but 7.5km away then go through at over 300 cut the throttle as you pass through the slot and the Docking Computer can help you avoid leaving ship shaped dents inside the station, left to itself it can park you in a queue to enter leading to scans and being shot at.

One other important point about getting bounties on you: While you have it, NPC bounty hunters will come after you occasionally. When they interdict you, do not shoot them unless they've landed shots on you or else you'll get another bounty on you and you'll get more notoriety if you kill them. After they've landed shots on you without you shooting them, they become wanted, so you're then good to go.

Is this right?
Why would they become wanted?
You're only wanted in the system that you got the bounty, so you'd be clean anywhere else. Anybody that shoots a clean ship becomes wanted. When you get a bounty in a RES, like OP, the first step is normally to jump straight to another system , then you figure out what you're going to do next. There's not much point in staying in the same system.

Yeh, I'm Kumo, so...

The danger of fitting a Kill Warrant Scanner is you see bounties the authorities don't know about so while you are happy that you are destroying the scum of the galaxies security sees you attacking an innocent victim and will come after you as soon as they have put down their doughnuts, the same applies to NPCs.
Of course if you think this is unfair you can turn off report crimes against me and the attacking NPC should be safe.

so i have bountys on me from other systems and i am in ellis station that has an interstellar factor, but i cannot pay them off. they tell me if my notoriety status is 0 i can pay it off, but my notoriety status IS 0

how can i pay it off? is that a bug?

i have a problem with bountys on me. i got some in other systems and i moved on. i was wondering how can i pay them off, as nowhere i got the possibility to do so. now i see i have to go to a system/station with interstellar factor...but i am in BD+05 1146 now and inara tells me ellis station IS one with interstellar factor. yet i cant pay it off. instead when i want to collect my bountys, they always want 25% and i dont see doing that. also if i did, the bountys wont go away, as i did that already and bounty is still there and they still want 25% from the ones i collected...so how can i pay them off?

note: i had another bounty from the system where i am in, because i hit the cops by accident in a high res zone (i mean he crossed my laser so technically it was the cops fault...). i could pay it off and done. but these other bounties still remain
Interstellar Factors are funded by the 25% charge they make to pay off or collect bounties and fines for you, so if that figure is unacceptable your options are limited. The only time they can't help is if you aren't in the ship that the bounty is attached to, but then if you are in a clean ship you shouldn't have a problem anyway until you want to do something with the ship with a fine which could get expensive.

If it is a fine you can ignore it and just pay it off any time you are in a station controlled by the faction that fined you.
If it is a bounty you would need to find a station controlled by that faction, get into the station without being scanned by security ships nearby and turn your self in to the security contact, you will be transferred to their choice of prison ship but the fine will be payed and your ship will be intact.
Or you can get scanned by a bounty hunter or the faction in questions security and let them destroy your ship, you will be at the prison ship for the rebuy which will take care of the bounty.
You will need to be in the ship you got the bounty in, and if you have transferred any modules from that ship before the bounty is cleared they are "dirty" and will cost more to move plus attach a bounty to any clean ship you fit them in I think you need to see the IF to get the module cleaned but I am not sure as I have always cleared fines and bounties immediately.

Interstellar factors also allow you to claim bounties that you've earned from factions based in other systems, and take a 25% cut as their fee. Are you confusing bounties on you/your ship with bounty claims you've earned from killing pirates?

Interstellar factors won't deal with you if you have any notoriety. You have to wait for notoriety to expire before going there.

i have edited my post...

my panel says i have NO bountys and NO fines on me...that means these 25% are simply a fee for paying me off while being in a different system and i would have to go to the systems were i collected them?

annoying bureaucracy...seems they also simulated that stupid part

important question now: do these collected bountys from other systems get counted for the community goal?
