Bounty woes - Returning player

Hi

I've recently returned to the game after a break and I'm a little confused. Whilst out bounty hunting at a res site in my "home" system, I accidently hit the shields of a target seconds before the wanted tag appeared and ended up with a small bounty on a 3 day timer. I decided to try and pay this off but instead was attacked just outside of the local space station. This seemed a little over the top seeing as how I was in a supposedly friendly (green) system.

Anyway, I got out of there as fast as I could and headed for a new system. Following a failed attempt to fuel scoop which ended in my ship being destroyed, I noticed that the status of my bounty had changed to "dormant" and the timer had increased to 6 days. Once again I attempted to pay it off but was destroyed by authority vessels when trying to enter the space port (I did not fire back on either occasions).

I'm assuming a new system has been introduced in my absence, but I'm damned if I can understand the logic behind it. Why was the timer increased from 3 days remaining to 6? This presumably means that with no method of paying it off, I will have to wait almost a week before venturing back home, thus making it impossible to access my other ships, complete missions and cash bounties. This was all in solo mode, by the way.

Cheers

After a bounty goes dormant you won't be actively hunted and killed but if you get scanned the bounty reactivates and they'll try kill you. Best bet is to avoid that system for a week till the dormant bounty expires.

Another option is do what pirates do they learn to ignore wanted status and still land at stations loaded with illicit/illegal goods and a huge bounty without getting scanned or killed.

If you want your ships your gunna have to dock pirate style - I suggest you practise this a couple of times at a station your not wanted in because you might crash the first couple of times and you don't want hostile security on your back.

Boost to the station and at 7.5km request docking. Don't approach yet you want to keep your distance and stay away from security vessels whilst manoeuvring yourself so that you can bee-line strait to the slot.

Once your lined up boost strait to the slot at suicidal speed - slam down the reverse thrust before you enter it.
Getting through the slot at speed is the dangerous bit but you can't afford to take your time. Once you get the hang of it and become consistent it's fun and fast especially In a big ship like the clipper.

Once your in deploy landing gear and do all you can to slow down. Dock and then go to outfitting/shipyard so your ship is taken out of sight because the security can still scan you whilst docked.

Getting out safely is pretty easy line up and boost out and keep boosting till you can jump.

People used the old system exploit the game to make a lot of cash. The new system is set up to prevent it. As well as to encourage want to be outlaws to stay in one system.

You must've taken a heck of a break. The system was changed in Powerplay (1.3)... MONTHS ago.

This is what happens when you lose faith in the game and quit, then try to come back later in the hopes something has changed: It has, and you've missed all the warnings that were posted before the change, and the adaptation we've all gone through to get used to it.

1. Bounties are only system-wide, unless (maybe) if you get a LOT of them or something. If you get a bounty you can go to another system... but yes, if you've got a bounty where you keep your ships, the crap is neck-deep with knickers.
2. They can't be paid off until they expire.
3. Once they expire they become "legacy fines" and may have implications if you get further bounties in the system.
4. You get bounties for ramming. Watch out. This part of the system is currently glitched; if a weakened sidewinder crashes into you and dies while you hover over your landing pad waiting for the gear to deploy, the station will instantly kill you. So be careful and hope you don't get that unlucky. It hasn't happened to me yet, and I've played a lot, so it's pretty rare.

As much as I appreciate your input, that's rather presumptuous. I was out of the game for almost four months due to work commitments. I love the game and have been a fan of the series since I first played Elite on the Amiga 1200. I'm going to do a little trading until my bounty is up:)
