So its going to be on a DVD, does that mean it will not require downloading the game through Steam? I hope this doesn't allow cracks to bypass Denuvo [praise] I kind of like how this game hasn't been pirated! I also like how it says King of Tycoons [up]

Also, will there be an official manual released with the game? Or a digital one for those who already bought?

I wonder if they will keep the free updates coming, or if the updates will just focus on balancing and bug fixes (which are still very badly needed)? and the DLC add-ons will be announced soon! I really want to know what's up next for PC

Will be surprised if Steam isn't required in some form (probably to update game versions/connect to the game initially before going in offline mode if required). Think it's more for those who like having boxed versions of their games but it's still basically the same version as the rest of us have.

I'm just surpised it says "DVD compatible only" I was expecting a digital download code printed on a card, but yeah I'm sure it will have some form of online verification process

Newer computers don't even have a DVD or CD rom player any more.

your thinking of tablets and chrome/netbooks, not real desktops or laptops which often have a DVD burner, and you probably wouldn't be playing PC on a tablet or netbook anyway... well maybe in a few years [wink]

I'm going to assume that it will still need to use Steam just like all of our copies do.
The only reason I say that is because The Sims is the same thing. It had discs for installing but still required Origin to run the game, if I recall correctly.

That's kind of exciting news that they are having a boxed version though. I think it will be able to reach a lot more people once it releases.

Look RCT 1-2-3 where all boxed items. people are impulse buyers they see something in the store that looks fun will buy it. Also remember open software is non returnable at least in the states. So surprised they didn't release sooner, but think they waited for more content in spring update. Either way good for Frontier and us as a community more workshop items.

This. It works like this for many games. Surprised people don't know this. Boxes really are a thing of the past huh? [haha]

I got the disc version to Cities Skylines. When I installed the game off disc, the installation process referred me to Steam. It will likely do something similar for the disc version of Planet Coaster.

It's great for people who are old school and prefer disc rather than digital. Both disc and digital have their pros and cons.

I still wonder if they'll do a port for Xbox Scorpio due out later this year. Microsoft has released more official specs this month about Scorpio. An 8 core 2.3Ghz AMD APU. About 1172Mhz 12GB GDDR5 with 326GB/s bandwidth. However the 8 core APU on Scorpio has a very low clock speed of 2.3Ghz. However Cities Skylines is now out on Xbox One. Frontier has made games for Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Boxed retail versions are really just a collector's novelty and a way to get some more shelve exposure. If previous Steam enabled physical games are anything to go by, the game code on the disc is already obsolete the moment it hit the shelves anyway. Let's hope so at least, because the game still has longs ways to go before it is "King among Tycoons" or effortlessly intuitive like the out-of-context press quotes state.

It is also a good way to let those who want to support/ donate Frontier, shell out some extra pennies in exchange for a physical trinket. :)

And perhaps a time-saver for those who already have steam and a slow connection... (Correct me if I'm wrong but for some installing from a disk is faster than downloading the whole game....)

I am happy not to have one, but to see more of PC too sell to the public, the bigger and more popular it is, the more we will see down the road ! :)

I just hope we will get mods and custom content sooner or later

The game is fun, I have 200 hours in the game and another 100 in the alpha but I feel there isn't so much to do anymore.

Unlike other games that support mods you can easily have 1000 hours or more. If planet coaster gets mod and more freedom in general i'm sure you'll get those hours too with this game but right now it still feels too restricted

It's a great way to market and advertise this game. Kids teens and young adults love fun parks. And being able to create your own. The cover picture promotes this very well. Plus your putting it in stores, JB Hi Fi, EB Games, etc. And perhaps large window posters of the game at the store. Great for New Zealand and Australians to find out about the game, since the game is British (Frontier). The only downside is you need a quad core CPU to run it on 1080p maxed settings, and the system requirements is higher than a lot of other games. But the graphics in this game is amazing. And combine that with The Ideas Of This Game, it will sell very well. Especially for the masses who like games like Cities Skylines, Minecraft, and The Sims 4.

Would be a nice option for gifting the game to others, trouble is I don't know anyone that uses an optical drive any more, I haven't personally used one on my PC since something like 2012! [haha]

seriously? theres gotta be at least 40 million people who still play console based games, and probably even more that watch dvd or blu ray movies. And I dont understand why anybody would want to have a computer without a dvd drive. It can always come in handy IMO like if I want to quickly throw some files onto a disc to give to a friend, its easier than USB media sometimes. Plus just about every car still has a CD player even if a lot of people don't use them, they didn't just disappear out of existence, what do you think they sell at games stores and electronic stores? Optical media

Personally I find CDs and DVDs to be easy to store and quite durable, much better than vinyl records IMO

On a PC I should have said. Everyone I personally know just uses Origin, Steam, Battle net etc! Even for OS installs I just use a USB stick.

Most PC users dont use optical drives anymore I think. I only use them to install drivers after a format. They've even grown shut, or it might be just soda. [tongue]

Besides when I was browsing for a new pc case a while ago I noticed most didn't even have 5.25" support anymore

But it's fun nonetheless even for collecting. I used to buy games that I really liked physical but I guess I would need to find a worthwhile place to store it first if I would buy another copy [big grin]
