Braben and Bell ....The Making of Elite

Plastic soldiers and Subbuteo - I bought my own Spectrum and Elite was the first game I bought on launch day! Mind you I am older than David Braben so shuffling into the older generation:smilie:

Ahh... I like Half Man Half Biscuit.

<wanders away singing 'The light at the end of the tunnel, is the light of an oncoming train!'>

I pleaded with my dad to get me the 48k version of the speccy so I could play flight sim which you could only get on the 48k if memory serves me right .........Elite ,Manic Miner , Wheelie ,Jet Pac ......now they were games that ooze gameplay lol

I still play those on the C64

Best thing that happened to me as a kid was getting work experience for 2 weeks at Ocean Software in Manchester..........I saw how they put the games together and got pretty friendy with some of the coders at the time .By the end of the 2 weeks I had games by the bag load in a goodie bag walking out with a big cheesy grin on my face

It would have been more apt if they had been playing Traveller. (Lets see who gets that one then) :p

Interestingly, the example character in Traveller's character generation chapter was... Jameson. Coincidence? I think not.

I played a lot of Traveller with my mates back in the day ;)

it's not my speccy memory that was going, its the grey matter between my ears .........Damn I need to buy Alpha to start behaving like a real man;)

Here's one to check how old you lot are .....did anyone play PSI-5 Trading Company

Yes, but only briefly. It looked great, I chose somebody with psychopathic tendencies as my weapons officer, I remember that. But it was a multi-loader cassette on my C64 which made things trickier.
