Braben on TechRadar - Can the British Gaming Industry be Great Again?

In my opinion the British game industry is great, what we lack most is recognition. A perfect example is Rocksteady. Makers of Batman Arkham Asylum & Arkham City. Based in North London they made good quality product without many of the fails that seem so prevalent these days. The next Arkham game, Arkham Origins, is being made by Warner Bros instead. Watch how it will fall way short of the quality of Rocksteady's games.

There's also a lot of great independent developers in the UK. They don't hit the headlines so much, but they're making a tonne of cool stuff and on the indie scene we're the envy of the world.

"But it's clear that action needs to be taken soon to stop the decline and put Britain back on the top table of an industry that is growing faster than anything else in entertainment."

Where is the problem? Elite Dangerous will be released in 2014.

;)

A good book charting the UK contribution to the games industry is 'Grand Thieves and Tomb Raiders'. I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested.

I guess the subtext to what David's saying is "Buy Elite: Dangerous, for Britain!"
