Bradfield Orbital

Hey guys I have a quick question. I made it from Eranin to Bradfield Orbital station to get crop harvesters, and now I am almost out of fuel. I am right by the entrance to the station, but in the Contacts tab it does not show up! And I can't request docking. I am worried if I fly in I will get blown up, and I can't really go any where else as I am pretty low on fuel. I tried restarting, and it's the same thing. What can I do?

If you are playing in open mode, you could try switching to solo.

I can target it, but nothing shows up in the Contacts tab. I will try flying out and going back in again. Hopefully that fixes it!

I guess a good question would be, why is it there to be cut off? Can't be that much of a power drain/heat source, and makes things difficult. Maybe it'll go the way of radiators.

I believe that turning it off reduces (or will reduce) your signature significantly, at the price of making others harder to spot.

you most often see this issue with the type 6, people turn off everything they can get away with to reduce power usage and therefore heat output.

Of course things are constantly changing, but my last understanding from player testing was that there are only three states you can be in. Either fully visible on scanner like normal, vague, or not there at all. Unfortunately at the moment, all you have to do to get a vague signature is to turn your drive off. Nothing else you do will make that happen if your drive is on, not even silent running mode. And the only way to get no blip at all on someone's scanner is to have both the drive off AND be at 0% heat output.

Well if that's true, that can only be achieved if you switch off your sensors... and since being invisible effectively makes you blind, it's nice to be able to toggle just that one low power module back on for a few seconds to take a peek and gauge whether that distant engine trail is actually closing on you or if it has hardpoints deployed.

Oooooh. Can you target sensors via sub-systems ?
If so... could be a fun way to troll... quick fly by with beams blazing - knock out the system and buzz off.

Phew... they would be thinking. Until they try and dock for repairs....

That's the thing, I don't think some of those small systems does anything to the heat output. There's a disconnect in what's operating and what's producing heat. Best way to show this, turn off your drive and turn on silent running. In theory, at some point your heat will rise up anyway, because silent running is supposed to be blocking heat dissipation from the ship. But it doesn't, because you can still be detected,, and you still cool to 0% with other systems running.

Hoping beta 2 revamps the whole thing.

How is that trolling? It's just being a tool :)

From various Dev comments I understand that detection is supposed to be a combination of heat and EM emissions, and modules such as shields and sensors should have a significant EM output.

It was also mentioned that Silent Running is intended ultimately to provide the best stealth effect, at least against passive sensors (all we have so far). Active scanners will be another matter though.

It's covered to some degree in the DDA.
