**Breaking News** Finally Found Evidence of Life in Space

Err.. its just a reflection of the star/s in the system you are in.
Look closely, once it first appears it will more than likely stay there for quite some time even after jumping to another system, notice how it changes colour when the star changes colour in the next system??
Looks like it a bug because even if you turn your back to the star the reflection is sometimes still there.

That isn't a rendering bug, or a weird alien or anything.

The first time I worked out what it was, I felt so damn embarrassed. I thought everyone already knew about this.

It's reflections of the various light points of the system in the visor of your helmet. Hold very steady, then look around your cockpit. You'll find you can control the position to some extent with the movement of your head. The curved surface of your helmet's visor is bringing the reflections together.

However!

I still consider them the explorer's friend, since I spent weeks in the black taking comfort from my little dancing spacefly companion :D

His name is Bug.

They appear if you're within 100ly of a gravity well (neutron star or black hole).

I called mine Fred.
I miss it now.

I heard if you capture it and keep it alive, you can sell it for 100b credits if you circumnavigate the galaxy. I'm 2 months into my trip now!

It'll sing to you while you do and eventually start talking.

Just don't feed after midnight.

Can confirm I had this happen only in systems with bodies that have gravitational lensing on them, eg. Neutron Stars and Black holes, probably related to the refraction effect on them.

This is most likely a bug.

It's certainly not the same rendering bug as the lensing bug I've experienced more than a few times. Those dots are usually barely a pixel or more across and they certainly don't have enough size to have a gradient glow, not to mention they tend to move in a more predictable fashion rather than jittering about on the screen. That said it probably is a rendering bug of some sort.

Seriously, like I said in my previous post in this thread it's not a bug. It's a reflection in the curved visor of your helmet. Look around your cockpit to move your head and it becomes really obvious.

I felt really stupid when I worked out what it was.

These lights are always present at Neutron Stars, in my experience anyway. They have occured in non-NS systems too, which may be the bug, as I don't think they should be anywhere but in NS systems.

Maybe FD could confirm?

White dots? What white dots? I can't see anything there and anyone who states otherwise, is just reinforcing those crazy alien theories, branded about by nutters just looking for attention.
