General / Off-Topic BREXIT and how it resembles the world of Elite Dangerous

So 1.3 million people out of 33.3 million total voters have set in motion the UK's exit from the EU.

In a similar way, the entire Elite Dangerous community can at times be forced to adapt due to the actions of a very vocal minority.

Exhibit A: The new AI is too hard, FD listens to the squeaky wheels, and voila! Simpler AI. Despite the fact most players were happy with the increased difficulty.

Exhibit B: Robigo missions. A vocal minority decries the fact that easy money can be made doing smuggling missions, FD listens, and now Robigo is dead. Despite the fact that the easy money didn't affect the minority in any way.

I am not living in UK, but local newspapers here are mentioning 17.4 milions votes (approx. 51.8%) was for Brexit, not 1.3 millions.

The final tally, which came at 7:30 Friday morning, showed Vote Leave had won by 1.3 million votes out of 33.5 million ballots cast.

Thats not how it works. 33 million people vote, all their votes count, and in the end 1.3 million more people voted 'leave'. So 52% of the voters decided what would happen, against the will of 48%. Thats democracy. I'm neither Brittish nor pro-brexit, but its a bit silly to frame it any other way.

He's only referring to the 'margin' votes: 1.3 million extra in favor of brexit. The majority voted for leaving, so they are leaving. Its precisely how the OP wants ED to be. Assuming the majority wants what he wants, ofcourse.

That how much the leave party won BY, not how many voted.

If only 1.3 mil out of 33 mil voted leave, we wouldn't have left. Because the majority would be remain. OVER half the voters voted leave IE) about 18 mil voted leave. It's actually a majority who wanted to leave... You DO know how voting works right?

Not going into detail how I voted though.

A: The population is spread to affects under governed just as finance in cities are based. Wealth is not balanced.
B: Robigo has been UA bombed and so lost its Market. It can happen in other places by players and keeps BGS moving along.

Which shows a naivety of how democracy and business works.

I understand that elections are 50%+1, but don't referendums need a minimum threshold, like 60% or something in order to pass?

When I've had to deal with European trading laws, they always seem such a grind and the result are totally random. So yup Just like ED :)

It was clearly stated in the referendum at the beginning, that this was a one for one vote. only two options to pick from, highest number wins

Well, 17.5 millions out of how many British over 18?

72% turn out

If BREXIT starts a change of EU governance its great, but if it doesn't ... Britain is looking at a very expensive future.

Democracy works best if you are at the table.

I'm Danish btw.

Oh yes its like ED. So therefore we need to MOVE PARLIAMENT, THE QUEEN, & STOCK EXCHANGE to Scotland and give them more of a chance - SERIOUSLY! Before they and N.Ireland rejoin EU and they build border controls in N. Ireland and Scotland.

I hate politics.

I post a picture of the sunshine on Twitter and someone tries to make it about their political views.

How is "brexit" the same as Elite? Pretty much identical the sour side of ED forums.

Lots of salty posting on social media.

Big whine threads.

Lots of "end of the world" predictions.

Whatever you voted for, well done for getting off your backside and voting.
