Brick walls

Something that's been bugging me for a while is the way the brick walls in the construction tab have weird tops and sides. The brick barriers are beautiful but I don't understand the walls. I mean, bricks have the same texture and colour on all four sides so I really don't understand why they are designed like this. It would be great if they could be fixed.

The brick wall piece are basic so you can customize them. All of the wall pieces are just walls then you can add what you would like on them. (If that's what you're referring to as their "design".)

They are like that so you can stack more brick on top, but a new item being a border thing could work
Quite aside from the fact that you can stick things on top no matter how they are decorated, forcing people to just bumps up the piece count unnecessarily, takes longer, is (IMHO opinion as I'm no good at that sort of thing) horribly fiddly, and isn't consistent as none of the other wall etc pieces are like that, I stand by more original point that this isn't how bricks actually are. They're the same colour and texture on all six sides, just like wood, concrete blocks etc.

I get you point. Though to defend frontiers choice: in between the bricks is mortal to ‘glue’ them together, the white on top is the mortal I guess. That said I would not miss it if it was not there 😂

Many grid-based wall pieces have separate wall tops (also grid-based); adding such a piece into the game for the brick walls would be the proper solution to this problem (and something I would totally get behind), not modifying the appearance of existing pieces, because that could mess up players' pre-existing builds.

I actually would have to look at the currently available choices again to make sure that there aren't already wall tops for the brick walls; I could be wrong about that, haha.

I see what you're saying but I don't want to add more non-grid pieces to a grid build than I absolutely have to, especially when the fix isn't a drastic change: it's simply colouring the tops to look the same as all the other sides. I also thought about the other brick pieces but they also have blank sides which render them pretty pointless. I know nothing is going to change - I just wanted to raise the point.

Edit: I just scrolled back to my original post and you can clearly see the blank sides in the extra pieces.

I wasn't saying that they already existed in the game; I meant that the solution on Frontier's end would be to create these grid-based wall tops for the brick walls (which do exist for some other wall varieties, I forget which ones), as opposed to them changing the appearance of the pieces already in the game. Sorry for not being clearer on that, that's my bad.

because that would cause a lot of lag, has textures get redrawn every frame.

also why would you texture a side of a brickwall unless it the end wall.you be not see that texture if you added to the side.

Well even the "blank" white part is itself still a texture (it's just a white texture, with a little bit of bump to add visual interest). Every surface of an object that you see in the game is textured in some way.

That you think anything in a game would be left completely untextured just because of lag tells me that you don't actually know much about game dev and model texturing. As ChrisGauthier said, all sides are textured. It's just a different texture from the rest of the wall. Changing the white stone texture on the sides of brick pieces to be brick textures instead would change literally nothing about performance, fam.

not every object is thou.it a small blank filled picture.

Rofl: and you do?
What are you talking about, the billboards? Those are still textured. You just have the option to change that texture. Besides, this isn't about special pieces like billboards. This is about standard gridded building pieces. And none of them go without textures, ever. Your original post is still blatantly misinformed.

@bangermsuk one thing that I think you doesn't understand is that a "texture" in game development and animation is the technical term for an image file used to determine colors and surface variation on an object. No part of a 3D object is ever left untextured (trust me, this is my major; it's what I do). Sometimes that texture may be a single solid color without any visible bumps or variations, but it's still a "texture", and performance-wise the exact same as every other texture.
