Brief Hypothesis

Let's hypothesise of a scenario where you have some excellent ships currently stored away in a space station. Or in my case, an Orca and an Eagle. I, however, die when flying the Eagle and can easily afford the rebuy cost.

HOWEVER! Instead of rebuying, I choose to start off with the Sidewinder at some desolate space station probably a million light years away from my original position.

So here's the question. Can I still rebuy the Eagle? What happens to my Orca, can I have it transferred to my current station?

P.S No I haven't done this, I'm just curious.

You could buy a new eagle, but the one you had is gone for good.

Your orca is fine though, and yep, you can transfer it to your current station.

If you can't, or don't accept the Re-Buy, you will go back to your start point, into a Sidewinder. Everything else is on your account goes unchanged.

Thanks! That's what I was hoping for. This is something I intended to do but wasn't quite sure of the outcome. Better safe than sorry. My Orca's jump range is pretty crap to get anywhere useful right now, since I bought the ship at Quince. :^)

I'm confused. If you choose the sidewinder you start in one of the starter systems don't you? Why would you be at some "desolate space station" far away from your original position? Unless you were way outside the bubble when you died I suppose, but you're not that likely to be that far out in an Eagle. Or am I missing something?

Depending on if you have Horizons or not: You will either start in LHS 3447 or where ever the horizons game starts (some planet near there). Most likely not more than a couple hundred LY of where you are now (or just a few dozen).

No, you cannot rebuy the Eagle. That particular "ship" with its modules (and if you bought it or them at a discount) and ALL of the credits you've invested into it, are gone. Never to be seen again.


Nothing happens to your Orca. It remains docked where you left it. Yes you can transfer it to your current position.
