Bring back Offline Play for Elite: Dangerous

I recently got a Xbox One and was looking forward to playing Elite: Dangerous at home, but I don't have internet. I was very angry that I had to have a internet connection to play, I was really looking forward to playing this game once i got home from my brothers where I installed the game. All that excitement drained from me once it told me to connect to the internet to play. This game is far to great to not be able to be enjoyed without internet, I hope you bring back the offline play feature. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,
Commander Nightmare

Offline play has never been part of the released game. The possibility of offline play was added to the pitch mid way through the Kickstarter (about four years ago) but cancelled before the game was launched.

It would have been nice but I think it was decided very early on in development that what Frontier wanted to do with Elite meant that an offline mode just wasn't viable.
It'll be even worse when I dig my old Xbox out of the cupboard to show the grandkids and nothing works on it except Viva Pinata.

I remember playing it offline on my brothers xbox one

There is no offline mode on any platform.

There is a Solo mode - which is still online (but can be played without XBox Live Gold membership on XB1).

How did you download the game if you have no internet connection? Missed the answer to this in the OP, apologies.

Does ED even startup without connection, your cmdr file is saved server side.

Edit.
My fault, your cmdr file is loaded when choosing the play option. solo, open etc.

You're correct, this feature has never existed. There was a lot of us pretty disappointed by this back in the alpha and beta pc days. Never been a feature on Xbox and this feature may never exist.

.... unless....

Can the training missions be played without a connection?

last I checked you can't play the training

May not massively helpful, but I believe someone tested out playing ED in solo mode using a tethered/hotspot connection using their phones internet.

Uses about 100mb for a 6 hour session if you can spare the data! ;)

I do this all the time but mostly in a PG rather than solo and it works fine (except from the long loading times since 2.2), but i would love an offline mode.

Firstly, I'd say it's rather odd to have not done a little research into the game before being "very angry" about something the game never had.

Secondly, I still really would like an offline mode in some form, if it's even possible - primarily because it's going to be rather tragic (in gaming terms, at least) when the servers go through their own big crunch/heat death, and ED is reduced to little more than a memory.
